Men of Reddit, how often do you throw out your underware and by new?

When they tear or lose elasticity. I’m wearing a pair I bought at the beginning of COVID and have at least three pairs over 5 years. I rotate through like 14 pairs.

We are ballmates, exactly the same system I have for underwear. I do buy expensive underwear, $50+/e, so they tend to last quite a long while.

1

u/le_yellowrat Oct 07 '22

Agree, expensive underwear lasts quite a bit longer, supermarket underwear (at least for me) lasted for about a year at most, nice stuff has lasted me over 4 years.

When Victoria Secret comes out with new lace designs

5

u/KcocNoisnetxeGib Oct 07 '22

I free ball it every chance I get. So maybe like once every couple years or so

5

u/tadlrs Oct 07 '22

When they break.

So every two or three years.

5

u/jackwritespecs Oct 07 '22

Holes and they’re gone

5

u/Humble_Drama_6891 Oct 07 '22

I go commando it feels better you can’t trap your boys

3

u/WriggleNightbug Oct 07 '22

Sorry to be crass, but do you notice the flop/bounce when you are free range? I just can't wear casual pants (gym shorts or whatever) in public without worrying that I'm too noticeable. I don't know if that's spotlight effect or what.

Or do people that go unbound just wear jeans/jean shorts? Or do you just not worry about people seeing you?

4

u/Humble_Drama_6891 Oct 07 '22

I don’t worry about people seeing me

2

u/4f150stuff Oct 07 '22 edited Oct 07 '22

The “flop/bounce” is exactly why I go commando full time. It’s so much more comfortable. Like u/Humble_Drama_6891 said, you can’t trap your boys, lol

I wear jeans and all kinds of pants and shorts. I don’t worry about people seeing anything, coz I think most people aren’t looking and I’m also careful to make sure no details are showing

1

u/PaleAsFuck90 Oct 07 '22

In jeans you can trap em in the zipper...

2

u/Humble_Drama_6891 Oct 07 '22

True but it’s still a pro not to have them feel caged plus I don’t wear jeans

1

u/PaleAsFuck90 Oct 07 '22

Ok. But then you'll need to wash your pants more often cause they gonna smell like balls. That's the reason we wear underwear. To keep the clothes fresher for longer. I don't wash my pants often at all instead I wash my underwear often. (Am woman btw)

3

u/Humble_Drama_6891 Oct 07 '22

Still I’d have to wash them as much as I wash underwear and I have a lot of sweatpants

1

u/PaleAsFuck90 Oct 07 '22

Oh. I barly wash my sweatpants. Only it stained or starting to smell. So very rarly

2

u/Humble_Drama_6891 Oct 07 '22

Yeah their super comfortable plus underwear is uncomfortable it’s easier just to let them hang

2

u/PaleAsFuck90 Oct 07 '22

Oh well. Whatever works for you.

When the elastic gets worn out or it gets holes

u/a60v Oct 07 '22

I threw mine out years ago and haven't bought more. Underwear is useless.

3

u/infiniterevisions Oct 07 '22

when the boxer short becomes a skirt it's time to get a new pair.

3

u/Vulgar-vagabond Oct 07 '22

No shit... I still have some boxers that I had in HS...

I graduated in 01... I don't tossem them until I can see thru them. By the time I toss'em my plaid boxers look like lace.

2

u/Stormwind969 Male Oct 07 '22

That was over 20 years ago...

If they're still good I must know where you bought those quality undies

2

u/54321ContactInfo Oct 17 '22

He bought them from an older world... and even back then it was starting to be a quality crapshoot. Some stuff barely lasts months no matter what you pay. Same machines, same (lack of) quality control.

Unless you make them yourself, probably no guarantees on lifespan anymore, sadly

3

u/Equivalent_Memory3 Oct 07 '22

We throw clothes away? I mean, super glue and staples exist for a reason.

3

u/shavedmonspubis Oct 07 '22

You spelled underwear wrong.

3

u/PortiaLabiata Mail Oct 07 '22

Idk man, I don't keep track of that.

7

u/3chordguitar Oct 07 '22

I go commando most of the time, so I don’t keep a big inventory. I’ll say I throw them out when needed???

2

u/AardvarkStriking256 Oct 07 '22

Throw them out when the elastic is gone from the waistband, which takes a few years (maybe five years) but I buy probably ten pair per year, so I have at least 40 pairs.

2

u/GetFit85 Oct 07 '22

Clearly not enough if I listen to my gf

2

u/goatgosselin Oct 07 '22

Throw out?!

2

u/BlottomanTurk Oct 07 '22

Once they get tears or holes. I got a set of 36 for xmas like 7-8 years ago, and have about half left.

On a sidenote, I like your typo underware and I love that it's soulmate word would be hardwear; an apt name for men's underwear.

2

u/BMoney8600 Male Oct 07 '22

When they are practically disintegrated.

2

u/bigcockbangle Oct 07 '22

I have 2 pairs of boxers. Had them since I can remember. Hole in them that lines up with my asshole, so my best guess is years of slightly too acidic farts n sharts degraded the structure

2

u/surgeon67 Male Oct 07 '22

I buy new when I'm out of clean pair and don't have time to do laundry. I don't know what you mean by "throw out underwear. "

2

u/gnarlyoldman Male Oct 07 '22

I threw out my underwear 30 years ago. I never buy new.

One layer of clothing is plenty.

2

u/ChocolateDiesel11 Oct 07 '22

When they look like I got attacked by a shark

4

u/soft_waves surfs naked (under my board shorts) Oct 07 '22

not that often. i probably toss out a pair of boxers like once every other year, as the elastic starts wearing out.

but i have some boxers i've owned for like 10-12 years. Target must have some pretty damn good Snoopy and Adventure Time boxer shorts, they've lasted me forever!!

0

u/IAteTwoFullHams Oct 07 '22

Probably about every eighteen months. Just whenever it feels like it's been enough time, I guess.

5

u/PaleAsFuck90 Oct 07 '22

So if the underwear is still intact and sits good you throw it out if it's been long enough?

1

u/TheImpossiblePoster Oct 07 '22

Every 1.5-2 years, been a bit longer this time. In the process of replacing them now.

1

u/catastrophic_cat_ Oct 07 '22

Idk I've never bought new ones

1

u/snakepliskinLA Oct 07 '22

When the elastic fails.

1

u/mrinkyface Oct 07 '22

I rotate buying new ones with throwing away the oldest ones and having some that are kinda new

1

u/Hrekires Oct 07 '22

As needed, when the elastic in the legs or waist starts going or they get torn.

1

u/Kevita24 Oct 07 '22

Once a year give or take...maybe every 8 months. I have some fancy-ass boxer briefs that I only wear like once a week when I go out or if I'm going to get laid lol those I'll have for a bit longer.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '22

I bought like 50 pairs of calvin klein boxers in 2018, only like 3 of them had to be tossed out. They’re great.

1

u/Prestigious_Meet820 Oct 07 '22

When the holes become large enough that one of my nuts hang outt. Probably bought two costco packs in the last 10 years.

1

u/50mm-f2 Oct 07 '22

jesus what do you guys do to your underwear? my favorite 4 pairs that are in constant rotation are like 10+ years old and no sign of holes or anything.

1

u/Bumhole_Astronaut Oct 07 '22

When they can no longer perform their intended function.

1

u/Alchemis7 Oct 07 '22

When they have disintegrated to such a degree, that wearing no underwear is a better choice .

1

u/Ratnix Oct 07 '22

That depends on how long it takes for them to develop a hole in the crotch.

1

u/WriggleNightbug Oct 07 '22 edited Oct 07 '22

I buy new when I feel like it. Which helps me stomach the costs because the undies I like cost ~10 to 20 a pair. Generally, when i see the undies i like in a pattern that is good enough on clearance. Then, I throw them out when I notice a hole or elastic breaking down. I would guess a pair lasts 2 years or so of once week or every other week wear.

My bigger issue is knowing when to toss socks and where to find patterned business casual socks in my size. Because size 6 to 9 or 6 to 10 doesn't actually have the heel of the sock sit right on my foot and I feel like the elastic breaks down quickly.

1

u/Project_Hefty Oct 07 '22

The meme where it shows Spider-Man beat up and his mask has rips and tears showing 60 percent of his face is probably most relatable thing I ever saw

1

u/Square-Shake8898 Oct 07 '22

Everyone saying holes... how do they get holes 🤔

1

u/maoristyles101 Oct 07 '22

When half a cheek is visible

1

u/Prize_Consequence568 Oct 07 '22

When it finds religion

1

u/ricochetpeestream Oct 07 '22

I throw then out when they get holes that are more than 1 cm in diameter. Once I've thrown out three, I buy a three pack of new ones to replace them.

1

u/NoFun2174 Oct 07 '22

When the elastic starts to stretch or gets holes. Also, if the color is faded.

1

u/Kyoshiro80 Oct 07 '22

When they have holes, I buy new ones. Material MUST be bamboo.

1

u/BigEwithamidsizedP Oct 07 '22

While I do buy them about every 4-5 months, I do have about 40 pair of underwear ... so I am good.

1

u/Public_Star_7977 Oct 07 '22

Who says I wear any

1

u/sickofit1337 Oct 08 '22

For ne it's about every 3 years ill buy a couple of pairs but I'll only throw out the holey or broken elastic ones out

1

u/Imnotactme Oct 09 '22

Only if they are broken, as a fat man, underware that don't compress the rod and sack is rare
