Text I actually cannot imagine being a person constantly in the public eye

I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. Like Peterson. Being a figure, especially an opinionated one, in the public eye has just got to be the most miserable and spiritually draining thing ever. I literally cannot imagine how much it must suck to be picked apart to shreds for every single little thing you do or say. I know that it’s important for people like this to exist and I am thankful they do. But damn, they really sacrifice themselves in doing so. He is staying true to himself and his beliefs which is super admirable but I cannot even imagine the spiritual toll this world is having on his spirit. There’s no real question or point to this but if anyone has any thoughts or insights I’d like to hear them.

Video Bananas?

A couple of years ago, I saw a short clip where Peterson was describing the problems of economics and people falling behind using a story about bananas (I think). We all start with the same number and, though various means, some people collect more bananas while others lose them. Once you have collected more bananas, it's easier to collect yet more. You can, for example, wager half your bananas and still have lots of bananas (calculated risks)....but if you're down to one or two bananas only, it's more difficult to climb back up.

Can anyone help me locate this video?

Thaks!!!

Interesting article. Science has gotten more liberal (significantly) over the years. If this is the case, is it conceivable that science itself has become more liberal. The research backing transgender identities seems to be fraught with biases. It seems that it is hard to find research that is applicable to conservative questions and ideas, but liberal studies abound everywhere.

Hi i'd like to contact dr.peterson about a surgery called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. I had a similar procedure done in june 2000. This surgery has been sold with a myriad of lies. Many side effects are not disclosed. I would love if dr.peterson could do something on social media about the injustice done to people who have had this surgery around the world and suffer severe side effects.

Letter [Letter] I have been so close to logorrhoeic people for so long I almost get panic attacks when someone talks too fast / too much

Hello,

I have 35 years now, I've always been a very patient and quiet guy. I really like calm and can literally spend hours reading or doing nothing. I don't care so much about gossips or chitchat but I do enjoy company and I can healthly partecipate in a fun night out or whatever.

My sister (she's 49yo) has always been in a fight with everyone. I think she feels very insecure and she often judges people to the point of not wanting to deal with them. So she doesn't have many people close to her at all and she's alone most of the time when she's not as school (she's a teacher).

So I feel like i'm one of the few persons that she holds close and I do enjoy talking with her sometimes. But she's incredibly logorrhoeic and she's the kind of person that asks you a question and looks at you with eide eyes without listening to a word hoping you'll finish talking fast so she can start with her 45 minutes monologues. This has been going on for years, and she knows so well that people just want her to stop talking that she even learnt not to make any pause or give any opening for you to stop her. She asks me sometimes specific questions that she is sure i will answer just as a pretext to lock me in a one way conversation about ultra detailed things I don't care about. This has gone on many years but now I sometimes just forcefully interrupt her or whatever.

One of my best friends is also similar. Not as bad but especially when he drinks a bit (if we go out drinking) he starts with one-man shows, and even when sober he is often very loud and talkative. We had been working together in renovation projects and I like to work enjoying the silence of the mountains and he literally never shuts up always voicing his thoughts and such.

Now I have moved to Norway for work for a couple of years and I got quite close to a girl (we're just friends) I work with. She's helped me out a lot and I have also helped her out. By the end of last year she got a bit too affectionate but I have been really clear and I tried to distance myself a bit.

But she's a friend and we also work together. But she also sometimes start to go in extreme details about the story of people she knows/deals with that I have not a single care to hear about. Just very random things, maybe I tell her literally 2 minutes about one thing that happened when I was hitchhiking in Australia and then she tells me for 25 minutes about the whole family of a random guy that she met hitchhiking 10 years ago.

We had a road trip for work a few days ago and she would just not shut up. We may be driving in this amazing scenery with a good song on and she HAS TO start commenting on how good the song is and how she was listening to this that one time and blablablablabla.

I swear sometimes I see these situations coming and I almost get panic attacks. I do not know what to do anymore. I tried being quiet about it. Just not listening. Sometimes they go "I am talking too much am I?" and I honestly tell them "Yeah sorry it's overwhelming me". Sometimes when I just can't handle it anymore I have to stop them "Sorry I can't focus on this you are giving me way too much details". They do not care. If they even stop for a minute they just resume right after. I just can't listen to this anymore. I am trying to distance myself a bit though I don't want to offend them and also it's not ALWAYS like this. Sometimes we can manage to have a normal conversation or some quality time together with no issue but whenever I see they are going to trigger, and I can totally see it, I get close to paniking. It's fine if I have an escape but for example 2 days ago on a work roadtrip I felt kind of stuck there and could not wait for it to be over.

Now I got to the point where I was looking a video tutorial for work and it was interesting but the guy was mumbling a lot and talking too fast I just had to stop listening to it I almost paniked.

I am not sure if there is any "tip" or advice anyone could give me about this but it's one of the things that drains me more than anything else and I just can't anymore

Philosophy Shadow integration vs. a Faustian bargain

Over the weekend, I saw Little Shop of Horrors and I was struck by the idea of the Faustian bargain trope. Seymour accepts the deal from Audrey II, resulting in more and more carnage on a manipulated rise to fame and notoriety, yet costing his soul and everything valuable to him.

So, a Faustian bargain is typically known as a deal with the devil where power, fame, and resources are promised in exchange for the protagonist's willingness to let the devil have some measure of control in his life. Typically this plays out in our stories to an ever-increasing toll that wrecks the entire community as the devil has his way.

I thought about shadow integration, something Dr. Peterson got me on a big journey of personal growth. The shadow is the part of my psyche in which I hide my most selfish and societally-unacceptable desires and whims. Jung posited that by bringing awareness to those parts of ourselves that we've repressed, we encounter fundamentally useful creative energy that, when re-channeled, fuels our individual growth in a loving and creative way.

It was described at times as encountering "the devil within."

Jung called this shadow integration.

So, this got me thinking: what is the difference between a Faustian bargain and shadow integration? Assuming that Audrey II served as the devil in Seymour's life, he tried to leverage it and it resulted in chaos; yet Jung believed that by making us aware of the devil within, it serves as the gateway to our individuality and finally becoming socially useful.

Thoughts, opinions, etc.?

Letter [Letter]

My name is Paul Makarenko. I was born in Ukraine in a family that always sought faith and meaning. From a young age, I had many questions that were difficult to answer. Each subsequent answer seemed to distance me further from understanding what is truly happening in our world and why. Reading the works of various Christian and secular philosophers and writers, I became increasingly convinced that the traditional understanding of religion, faith in God, and redemption did not provide a sense of certainty and genuine hope. Hope that goodness, love and truth always prevail, and that all the evil in the world is the main evidence for it.

I read the works of Lewis, Nietzsche, and Jung, and through that, I became more and more interested in the idea of how individuals are inwardly connected to others and to a higher power on a deeply psychological level. Jung, with his understanding of tragedy and its significance in the process of redemption, made a profound impression on me.

I first heard about you and your work, your way of life, and your principles in 2016, shortly before I moved from Russia to the United States. The ideas you transmit in your books and lectures deeply touched me. They resonated because they were a true reflection of what I genuinely wanted to believe, Jordan. I desired to believe, but it seemed too beautiful to be true.

Over the following years, as I worked with people in different fields and studied the works of various philosophers and scholars, I saw more and more beauty in the picture that was partially revealed to me through your books and lectures. In my life, incredible things happened all the time, and it gave me hope that all of it was actually true.

In 2022, my entire family was arrested and imprisoned for allegedly attempting to murder a person we had never known or heard of. I, too, spent some time in prison for this. During this period of my life, last year, I lost everything that others would consider significant. All my possessions, all my money, land, and everything that could be lost. Our businesses, mine and my parents', had to be sacrificed. When, after a year, I was finally able to see my family at home, even though the case is still open, and the associated problems are not diminishing, I realized that the most important thing no one can ever take away from us.

But it was precisely then, having lost everything, not for the first time in my life, but this time, I understood the most important thing one could grasp. That life is an ideal balance of chaos and order, and in order to move forward and understand something, one must constantly descend into their own personal hell.

During this period of my life, I came across your seminars on the books of Exodus and Genesis, as well as the series "Vision and Destiny." You can't imagine how everything I heard reflects everything I feel in the depths of my soul, and how it aligns with what I try to embody in my life for those around me. It so accurately mirrors my inner world and what I deeply desire to believe that it's almost unbelievable. The more I delve into this direction, the more similarities I see. And not just with you, but with other outstanding thinkers who have changed the world and give us all hope. Hope that we will manage to address the basic needs of humanity and collectively contemplate what is actually happening. That people in our world will understand and remember that everything is interconnected at a much deeper level, that the world and everything in it is fundamentally good, and that truth and love can truly triumph. And that all of us need to be part of this.

Question Shadow Work for Depression?

Jung gets brought up a lot here, and after watching this video from Eternalized,

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z8vokfq9W3U&pp=ygUSU2hhbWFuIGV0ZXJuYWxpemVk

I was wondering if anyone done shadow work or worked with a shaman to cure their depression? If so how was your experience?
