Anyone have an idea what Zoro wants from Vegapunk? Maybe an eye?

He was the last person from the crew that i would think to ask something from him

9

u/loonerz Oct 13 '22

He wants Vegapunk to cure the people in Wano affected by Smile

2

u/Summerschan Oct 20 '22

Sauce

2

u/loonerz Oct 20 '22

Common sense, he was really angry when he learned about the side effects from smile on the Wano people, he wanted to fix that

6

u/lunarwarrior12 Oct 12 '22

Oh yeah, luffy is a zoan he just activate gear 5 whenever he wants now

1

u/MajorRed001 Oct 21 '22

Gear 5 isn't his standard transformation tho. It's his awakening and that drains a lot of energy because he hasn't masttered it like The Jailer Beasts.

3

u/Mr_NeCr0 Oct 11 '22

I'm seriously confused about why the robot was able to hit Luffy, but I think the chapter itself explained it to us in a sneaky way. Wrath's gloves can make contact with light, and Luffy now being confirmed as the Sun God may explain why he got hurt so badly. This isn't some simple Nami joke routine, as it's a fking robot we're talking about here.

I think it's obvious that these gloves could counter Kizaru at bare minimum; but what if they work against a derivative of light, like the Sun God?

3

u/MajorRed001 Oct 14 '22

........Luffy is not made of light....that's not his power.

1

u/Mr_NeCr0 Oct 15 '22

Regardless of whether the person is made of light, or emits light; you can still repel it with these gloves.

2

u/MajorRed001 Oct 15 '22

Bro I'm extremely confused as to your comment. Why is it shocking that Luffy got hurt from a punch? And yes that entire scene was played up for comedy. It lasted for a single panel.

1

u/Mr_NeCr0 Oct 17 '22

Because he just beat the strongest creature in the world. Punches don't affect him like that without a reason. You can say it was just for comedy, but even Oda isn't that trivial with his magic system.

2

u/MajorRed001 Oct 17 '22 edited 28d ago

Luffy isn't invincible bro tf. He can be cut by a regular sword. He can be hit by a standard haki punch. He can be shot by regular arrows or pointed projectiles. He can be damaged by alternate techniques like rokushiki.

It was purely for comedy bro.

16

u/DoNotBotherMeplz Oct 11 '22

Isn’t it because the robot is not a hologram?

1

u/Mr_NeCr0 Oct 12 '22

Luffy just spent a few anime episodes fisting a steel block just to train his Ryuo. I think we can assume he's capable of beating a robot fairly handidly.

2

u/Moist-Yogurtcloset71 Oct 11 '22

Lol. I like the simplicity my guy

3

u/link022130 Oct 11 '22

Could vegapunk instead be like Dr Gero in DBZ having his soul (or Brain) transfered in Kuma (px0) body.

Note : that would mean his Real body is px0 or Kuma body has been designed like vegapunk Real body

Note 2: jewerly Boney talk about her father as it was Kuma ( his face is in background)

7

u/far219 The Revolutionary Army Oct 11 '22

Funniest chapter in a while

u/Birdyghostly1 God Usopp Oct 10 '22

I caught up to the One Piece manga around chapter 1050, so this is my first time witnessing a new arc up to time. It’s a cool experience to be with everyone else, debating what this arc will be about, instead of going on Reddit and finding all the spoilers of what it’s about.

1

u/whatchu-lukin-at Pirate Oct 12 '22

i caught up after the latest anime episode and yes, reading the story first hand is one of a kind.

4

u/Acceptable-Tie-1745 Pirate Oct 11 '22

You did the right thing, I saw Ace dying without spoiler. Hehehe

4

u/Birdyghostly1 God Usopp Oct 11 '22

I remember at the beginning of series, going on FANDOM and seeing Ace’s status at “deceased”, and being in denial. The same thing happened when I saw t saying that Aces father was “Gold Roger” and that Luffy’s grandpa was “Marine Hero Garp”. I was in utter denial. I kept telling myself it was a mistake or not canon.

6

u/Jonborg123 Oct 10 '22

was there a mistake with the numbering of Atlas in the chapter? They have the number Punk 06 but in the next page it shows that York is punk 06

6

u/Moist-Yogurtcloset71 Oct 11 '22

Yes, Oda stated he made a mistake but will correct it for the volume

11

u/Pandamonium1414 Oct 10 '22

This chapter is mindblowing! From Bonny's farther revealed to be Kuma to assasination of Vegapunk! Maybe Vegapunk secretly know Imu & his plan & wants to revolt! I also feel Waterarc 2.0 maybe coming Luffy vs Lucci & Zoro vs. Kaku 2.0 though I have a feeling they might end up helping Luffy rather than fighting them!

19

u/cabadio Oct 10 '22

Is it just me i get the vibes that this could be the best arc we get so far. NOTHING is bothering me, all the Info that dropped in 2 chaps are amazing. And Lucci is back. Is oda starting to rush things? Anyway I hope this will be a good short arc, if we get another dressrosa, wano whole cake thing, i will go nutz. They were so long i had to stop reading for weeks and reread it, so you can comprehend whats happening. Also what the hell is kuzan doing on wholecake? Creating choclate sorbet?

3

u/Mine-Many Oct 10 '22

I recently watched a video by King of Lightning, where he suspects that there is a good chance that this arc very well could be 50-60 chapters long, considering that we've 6 Vegapunks, it parallels with the number of moons that Oda has in the one piece world, hence this can be a change for Oda to bring that in or even if not, an excellent chance to expand on the Enel's cover story

9

u/fischer_taiger Oct 10 '22

Is it Kuzan at Whole Cake though??? Highly likely, who else could freeze a whole island?? Still seems coldblooded for his character to use his fruit that way. On the point of this arc being best ever? I am just as excited, but id say we could expect “best” (quotes bc thats obviously subjective) because this is the first arc since the beginning of the new world where Oda can start with an arsenal of fresh new plotlines. Suffice to say, this one is going to be good. Happy sailing, nakama

2

u/cabadio Oct 10 '22

Lol could be Monet but should be Kuzan fetching the road poneglyph for Blackbeard or he helps the vinsmokes... Not so sure. I hope new plotlines etc will come but i want finally some epic infos that i have waited all these years for. its about fucking time. Happy sailing to you too nakama.

15

u/prince_krab Oct 10 '22

This was like the first chapter ever where I didn't look at spoilers at all whatsoever.

If Aokiji is actually on wholecake that is huge, I've wanted to see him again for so long, but if he is I don't like that Oda is doing it in a cover story. I'm pretty sure that they almost always end up getting skipped in the anime.

It's been a while since we last saw someone hype up Zoro who already knew who he was, I'll really like it if it turns into a running joke where everyone we meet on Egghead says they're Dr. Vegapunk

But the big thing is that Lucci, Kaku, and Stussy are coming into play, it seems absolutely retarded that not only does the world government want to eliminate Vegapunk but they only send CP0, possibly only the 3, if Vegapunk is able to create the Seraphims, wouldn't it be reasonable to expect him to have something similar to defend himself? I doubt Lucci and Kaku have gotten strong enough to be able to give Luffy and Zoro a decent fight, I mean what can they do against ACoC? That being said I don't want to see them get oneshot. Even Lucci was questioning his orders on killing the most useful man in the world, why does the WG keep making decisions that seem so dumb, what are they hiding?

The last thing I want to talk about is that the Kuma Seraphim is the "problem child" I read a theory that speculated that the Seraphims would retain some traits of their respective warlord, "what if the Seraphim Hancock also falls in love with Luffy?" If that is true, maybe it will give us some more insight as to who Kuma was before he was turned into a machine.

I can't bend that low, so I don't think so.

But maybe if you use some kinetic force to roll you can perhaps change position! Cheers buddy, I pray for your success. :)

1

u/prince_krab Oct 10 '22

Yeah, I just couldn't think of any other word with enough weight to describe how I felt.

3

u/_Kutai_ Oct 10 '22

Not the original guy, but, really? Don't worry about it. Ppl are trying to make everything into a bad word.

In fact, by pointing it out, it was them who brought bad connotation to the word, not you. You know, redditor's gonna reddit.

I liked your comment, and I don't think retarded is a word that needs to be put in the same category as the N word.

So, yeah, just ignore the other guy. Nice thoughts!

Have a nice day!

-8

u/bertberserk Oct 10 '22

You’re a weirdo

10

u/rahmanm855 Oct 10 '22

One thing I love about Oda is his way of timing things. No one guessed Kuzan would be on Whole Cake, but he must’ve shown up with another person because I recall a panel where two figures showed up to Cacao island. It’s entirely frozen, wow.

Lol, a Tanuki and Reindeer sea beast. These armored sea beasts are so cool; what a clever addition to the marine’s weaponry.

I had a feeling Zoro would act sooner than later, glad to see Vegapunk focused on it. It’s funny seeing Sanji still simp over her lul.Bonney might be the second character (versus Caribou) who produced an otherwise relevant self thought directly to the audience. Weird writing decision there, but that’s not a common thing you see in this story. This Sabo information is very relevant, why hold it back now but tease the audience about it?

Luffy mentioning “Space monster” is one of the first times outer space is mentioned by him. I wonder if this will go anywhere. Super glad we’re getting a sci fi arc. It’s one of the only things Oda hasn’t explored deeply into yet, and the grand world of One Piece is finally allowing us to see what Oda can do with this genre. Plus photonic gloves? There’s your weapon to beat Kizaru.

Wow, CP0 is still relevant. And they all have their own masks. Wow, they got their Kuma version of the Serepiths. These CP0 jobbers are going to lose immediately to the Straw Hat crew. This is the one thing I dislike about the recent chapters…people like Crocodile and Lucci are jokes compared to the Straw Hats now. They are in no way threats to the story unless Oda buffs them up, which I’d be fine with, but this isn’t really made clear yet.

I also love u/Greiish’s coloring work.

This isn’t being talked about enough here but that’s definitely Kuzan who showed up to Cacao Island. From a story standpoint, what would be the point to show that frozen like town if it was just Caesar’s doing? We saw him escape in the previous cover which to me felt like a conclusion to his time in this arc, there’s no point for Oda to retroactively “flex” Caesar freezing a town and also ignore the point of silhoutteing the two mysterious figures who showed up there in the first place. I don’t know who else is with Kuzan but it’s probably another Blackbeard pirate.

2

u/kaixiangM Oct 10 '22

crocodile seems to have rediscovered his haki, so we do not know how strong he actually is rn, though I am not too sure how are they going to buff Lucci at all.

3

u/MisterEh Oct 10 '22

To go further into the armored sea beasts idea, I don’t think they will be an addition to the marines. vegapunk mentioned last chapter that their natural impulses still override the technology, this leads me to believe that shirahoshi will command them for the final arc.

I love how Luffy, Bonney and Chopper share a cartoonish love for food and it being fake almost sends Luffy into gear fifth. I feel ya Luffy, I feel ya.

5

u/WHEELMEAT Oct 09 '22

any1 gonna talk about how Shaka (punk-01) is seemingly wearing a daft punk helmet?

1

u/ZekeFrost Oct 10 '22

Shaka, when Wano walls fell!

Sorry, just had to say that.

1

u/Goldleader2187 Oct 09 '22

Flip the 5 berry coin and you’ll see

6

u/Robotik1991 Oct 09 '22

It would not suprise me if we learn in this arc that Bonney is Luffy real sister, adopted by Kuma. She look more like Luffy than to her father.

10

u/Shiroi_Kage Oct 09 '22

OK, Bonny's food-loving personality combos perfectly with Luffy and Chopper. The silly gags just write themselves.

2

u/Stibemies Oct 13 '22

Also smart play by Vegapunk to give them food, Luffy'll defend them regardless now!

7

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '22

didn't the person that kaido kill was the CP-0 leader?

if lucci didn't get promoted to CP0 leader than who did? spandam?

3

u/cabadio Oct 10 '22

Nah i think the gorosai / celestial dragons are the leaders. Maybe when they go to a mission one of them is made a temporary leader or a group boss something like that. The rank should be masked and unmasked.

8

u/Hamway420 Oct 09 '22

I'm probably wrong but Lucci bout to get a power up or a cheap shot

2

u/cabadio Oct 10 '22

I still try to figure out what tekkai and haki does... could be a though nut, maybe he awakened his fruit, whatever that looks like for a zoan type.

3

u/GraveRobberJ Oct 10 '22

whatever that looks like for a zoan type.

Awakened Zoans are like the jailer beasts in impel down, no?

1

u/cabadio Oct 10 '22

That is said so yes but I dont know If they are humans. They Just stated that they are tougher and can regnerate faster .. Kaido stated at the awakening that the mind and body can harvest the full potential of the fruit. so bring's ne to thinking what exactly does that mean for zoans. More morphing forms? Kaido only used 3 and we should estimate that he is awakened. Whereas chopper with the Rumble Ball resembles more the jailer beasts. So chopper May be awakened half way due to the drugs. Also kaku used varietys of his forms which was funny.

10

u/BitchDontKillMyChive Oct 09 '22

Nobody talking about how Vegapunk is giving Pain/Nagato vibes? Or is that old news?

1

u/ManySleeplessNights Oct 10 '22

"and now, this world shall know true punk. ALMIGHTY PUNK"

1

u/Smooth-Ad1721 Oct 09 '22

What vibes? Just the bodies thing?

6

u/Inthewirelain Oct 09 '22

the spoilers called him a pain like figure so yeah it's like 4 or 5 days old news lol. you're not wrong it's just most ppl discussed that in the spoiler thread.

1

u/swainj Oct 09 '22

Yea I wonder if he has a fruit power that lets his consciousness be shared with the other punks like the Chakra Rods, there could have been 100s of Vegapunks over the years with the amount of work hes done, having the different punks named after different inventors/traits definitely reminds me of the different paths of pain and I think we’ll get different types of science from each of them

3

u/Ijustdontanymore98 Oct 09 '22

Need to add my mark that i was here to witness peoples theory about Vegapunk being several people was true also that great reaction from Luffy about the holographic food!

7

u/zedfirenze Oct 09 '22

Loved the adventure feel of this one, amazing chapter!

40

u/Badji_D_Luffy Oct 09 '22

2 bodies named after Mesopotamian figures
2 bodies named after Roman/Greek figures
2 bodies named after historical human figures
Oda really flexing his historical knowledge like the nerd he is deep down. Love it.

Vegapunk just gave food to Luffy. CP0 and Lucci on their to kill Vegapunk. Vegapunk just fed Luffy. Luffy whooped Lucci's ass before he even had Gear 4. Lucci wants to kill Vegapunk. Vegapunk just fed Luffy.

What I'm trying to say is RIP Lucci!!!

4

u/omg-whats-this Oct 10 '22

You're also flexing your historical knowledge lol

2

u/yiggaman Oct 10 '22

Not awakened advanced coc Lucci? You got the wrong guy. Lucci is a genius who has been training aswell

1

u/SittingAroundAlone Oct 10 '22

That is a wild assumption to assume he even has conquerors haki, let alone knows how to imbue his attacks with it.

1

u/yiggaman Oct 10 '22

Yes it is not only a wild one but a shiny legendary wild one exclusive to the sapphire version Japanese cartridge but fuck it, I don't care

2

u/Alarmed-Accident-716 Oct 10 '22

Oh man, I totally forgot about the gave luffy food thing.

2

u/Safe-Discipline-6140 Oct 09 '22

Looking at the design I think body n. 5 (or 6?) might also be inspired by Astro Boy and his nemesis who is also called Atlas.

4

u/icehero0003 Thriller Bark Victim's Association Oct 09 '22

The names of the punks are also related to craters on the moon and constellations hence the stella name.

7

u/broken0lightbulb Oct 09 '22

Crazy out there theory but what if Lulusia wasn't destroyed but instead covered by a hologram from the sky. And with the Seraphims shown to have warlord powers, maybe one has Doffys birdcage ability and encapsulated the island so nobody can escape.

2

u/forbidden_toroid Oct 09 '22

Nah, birdcage is a DF technique and neither the pacifistas nor the seraphim inherited those. I'm liking the holograph idea but I really doubt it.

5

u/YourLocal_FBI_Agent Chopper the Cotton Candy Lover Oct 09 '22

neither the pacifistas nor the seraphim inherited those.

Seems like a pretty blanket statement to make when we've barely seen a handful of panels of the seraphim.

1

u/forbidden_toroid Oct 11 '22

This is consistent with what we've seen so far. Even the Pacifistas that looked 100% like Kuma didn't have his paw paw ability. Unless you're suggesting One Piece would go the way of Heroes and allow characters to acquire as many superpowers as they like without any downside, it seems safe to assume that what we've seen is the limit, especially given how convenient it would have been to have Hancock's ability used by her Seraphim clone against Amazon Lily.

2

u/ConveyK Oct 10 '22

Right? Not like a devil fruit has ever been cloned before…

2

u/broken0lightbulb Oct 09 '22

Ahh excellent point! RIP Lulusia

6

u/wheretohides Pirate Oct 09 '22

Is there a reason they moved the official release to Monday?

5

u/dreadhairpirate Oct 09 '22

I’m glad sanji is still sanji

11

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '22

still wont forgive vegapunk for weaponizing and brainwashing child clones into fighting, clone lives matter.

0

u/shadowninja6992 Oct 09 '22

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 buuuut clones are not real. They are artificially created in a lab mixed with lunarian DNA and warlord DNA

5

u/Haadhai Oct 09 '22

But it’s still life.

1

u/shadowninja6992 Oct 09 '22

Yea artificial life. Being created in a lab isnt the same as actually being born. These clones were created with one purpose in mind to fight the pirates/ war to come. As far as we know they feel no pain.

10

u/cyborgCnidarian Oct 09 '22

As far as we know they feel extra pain! Double pain! We know next-to nothing about them. As for the legitimacy of their life vs. their birth, this series has a talking starfish, which might have been "birthed" by parthenogenesis. It has an entire civilization of peaceful moon robots. It has had numerous sympathetic zombies, whose only crime was to be created by a madman's shadow shenanigans. Are their experiences and sacrifices not legitimate because then weren't birthed from a womb? We don't know enough about the seraphim, their biology, or their sapience to make judgements at this time.

1

u/shadowninja6992 Oct 09 '22

Have you read the chapters they were in so far? To me that sure a hell doesn't look like they feel pain. Also the shadows are taken from the living and given to the dead. They are zombies. Zombies are not alive. They are called the undead for a reason. And it's been stated that they have lunarian DNA mixed in with DNA from warlords. That's pretty much it. Pretty sure it was said in the same chapter they were introduced. And with helmeppo begging to use them to rescue koby it sounds like they have no free will of their own like the pacifistas before them meaning they only listen to who they've been programmed to.

10

u/cyborgCnidarian Oct 09 '22
  1. Appearances: Ch. 1059- Two seraphim shown. No injuries sustained, no lines spoken. Just kicking a** and taking names. Ch. 1060- Referenced, no details given. That's it, thats all we have.

  2. Of course zombies are not alive. That was never in question. Brook isn't alive. But are those zombies sapient? Can they think for themselves and are they self aware? Yes, on both accounts. In a world with robots, aliens, splinter-selves (Vegapunk), cyborgs, undead, talking clouds, and a gun-elephant, we can't judge sapience by whether something is alive, let alone if it's born.

  3. We don't actually canonically know how Seraphim are made. We see that they have traits of Lunarians, the former warlords, and the pacifista. The One Piece world may not even have DNA as we know it- the genetic markers are known as "lineage factors" and their composition is never elaborated on.

  4. I once begged the manager of a Baskin Robbins to let the clerk give me free ice cream. Does that mean the clerk has no free will?

  5. Again, we barely know anything about them.

7

u/ShlokHoms Oct 09 '22

So hyped already after that huge Wano fight. With the info we currently have it wouldn't be far off to guess that the Vegas will help the Strawhats in some ways, especially considering the Shaka needs the them somehow

13

u/electricmastro Oct 09 '22

If Kuma is truly Bonney's dad, then I'm pretty sure Bonney can't actually be of elderly age in reality, because Kuma is 47. If Kuma became a dad at 18, then Bonney would be 29 in reality, because 47 - 29 = 18.

Bonney’s comment referring to herself as a kid in past-tense is as if to say she’s not a kid anymore either, and must truly be of young adult age then.

1

u/KathyDroronoa Oct 09 '22

According to the wiki, Bonney is estimated to be 24 after the time skip and Kuma is 47. So he had her at 23 which seems plausible. And being in her 20s means she is not a kid anymore 😛

0

u/Alternative-Emu-4377 Oct 09 '22

You're assuming Kuma wasn't a hoodrat and had her at 13

It looks like this arc with tie in three mysteries:

  • Vegapunk: He seems to be with the government mostly for foundings, or is it?
  • Deal between Kuma and Vegapunk: Why did Kuma agreed to be turned into a cyborg?
  • Bonnie: Bonnie has an history with Akainu, and has now been revealed to be Kuma's daughter

3

u/SisterOfBattIe Slave Oct 09 '22

My guess it has to do with IM and the Lulusia's accident, and the long standing government effort into capturing/destroying the great weapons.

The Government wants to remove people able to stop whatever weapon was used to destroy Lulusia.

17

u/CoffeeSlut420 Oct 09 '22

The Light refracting gloves are right up Franky's alley, while Island Aircon could be implemented into Nami's climate tact, considering it was stated it could tame the weather.

15

u/Al-D-Kyda Oct 09 '22

Upgrade for franky, nami’s climatac, usopp slingshot, the sunny will be able to use Coup de burst without cola and maybe lilit joins the SH.

2

u/Smooth-Ad1721 Oct 09 '22

I highly doubt that character is meant to join. If she was, I think she would get a much more characteristic design. Her design is very generic.

And it's also too late and she overlaps with Franky, he is still an engineer.

What did Zoro want from vegapunk?!? And who is Bonney when did she get on the ship?

Lmfao luffy don't apologize for getting names wrong ever, calling people an idiot over a fun theory, and follow up with nothing logical, makes you looks dumb ass fuck and uneducated. Go get some bitches and stay off the internet

9

u/Knights_Ace Oct 09 '22

I think this arc will be more like SH will be saving Vegapunk. Good Vegapunks vs evil Vegapunks(as all of them have free will), change of heart/ defeat to others(we don't know their personalities yet). CP0 or Navy pulling something amazing to put up a challenge to SHs indicating Navy is on par or maybe above.

6

u/quip2022 Oct 09 '22 edited Oct 09 '22

Everyone talking about Cp0 vs SH but I think they won't move unless they were told to move. The guys in Wano didn't interfere until they were asked to do so. The Cipher Pol are puppets without a will or decision of their own. The only reason they will fight with SH is if Luffy decided to fight them to protect VP, imo.

They were there for Vegapunk only, maybe Lucci will get curious or learn something but who knows what will happen. I think it's a matter of learning stories from Vegapunk and deciding whose side are they going to bet on.

6

u/RaiKaiga Oct 09 '22

I think luffy will protect vegapunk resulting in a fight between lucci and luffy. But luffy will clap Lucci or lucci wont even start a fight cause he knows that he doesnt stand a chance.

3

u/forbidden_toroid Oct 09 '22

I think we haven't seen Lucci's potential as a fighter yet. Don't count him out just yet, because leopards are one of the most vicious predators alive and thus an awakened Lucci might be a totally different beast than the guy we saw in Water 7.

1

u/cabadio Oct 10 '22

Maybe good thing i read this post. I think luffy will get nurved by vegapunk being stupid as he is,like temoraryly unable to use his fruit. Cause of the food he ate or so, pray to god oda dont play that card.... but as more i think about it it seems very likely. Maybe he piss Vegapunk off and V give him a drug or so, maybe he extract the fruit and gives him back later..... so many possibilities. Please dont play that card.....

5

u/Chemfreak Oct 09 '22 edited Oct 09 '22

Lol it would be horrible writing if Lucci was able to hold his own Luffy at this point. Luffy just defeated Kaido. Luffy has a mythical awakened God Zoan. Lucci has an aggressive regular zoan. Even awakened at the very most G4 should go toe to toe with him. Luffy going looney toon should be easy diff.

And that's if you feel Lucci was able to get waaaay stronger in the same amount of time Luffy grew.

I know this story isn't about power scaling, but Lucci doesn't have a type of DF that has special abilities to even the playing field. His power (like all regular zoans) is pure aggro pure power type; nothing fancy to even a power scaling discussion.

1

u/GraveRobberJ Oct 10 '22

Well. the interesting thing about this arc is that Lucci's win condition doesn't have to be defeating Luffy - just killing all the Vegapunks

1

u/ilovecrackboard Oct 10 '22

isn't zoro just a normie as well though just like lucci?

1

u/Chemfreak Oct 10 '22

Yes but Zoro is a protagonist. It would be bad storytelling/hard to pull off bringing a villain like Lucci back and scaling him up to 100x as strong as before. Could Oda pull it off? Yes. But it would take a lot of backstory. But why would he when there are so few arcs left?

Enel for an example of one who could be good storytelling; Oda has the basis for why a low-powered Luffy was able to beat him; Rubber is a hard counter to electricity. Luffy was the only one who could literally stand even the smallest chance against him, and only because of the luck of his DF.

Additionally, Enel has still to this point some of the most powerful observation Haki (we don't know if he has future sight otherwise I would say he has the most powerful observation Haki), and his cover story has room to explain certain powerups he could potentially have (he literally found a technologically advanced society on the moon).

Lucci has no such backstory. No special powerup potential. No overpowered fruit. No special abilities besides Rokushiki, which he was already stated to have "complete mastery" over. There is no indication he has any haki, Observation, Armament, or Conquerers. He doesn't have any "mentor" who could have upscaled him quickly. Oda would literally have to retcon something out of his ass to make him Luffy tier.

We have followed Zoro incrementally getting stronger, as I said Lucci has no indication of making even incremental progress, even as little as non awakened haki. Retconning something is like the cheapest bad storytelling available for Shonen, I feel Oda is better than that.

8

u/Al-D-Kyda Oct 09 '22

This scene should have Luffy unleashing his CoC to back them off.

8

u/Clownsta Oct 09 '22

The way i creamed my pants while imagining this

16

u/Icy_Hearing1288 Oct 09 '22

There could be a Rob Lucci one shot k.o coming soon. It would be a second „Bellami moment“ showing power and growth of Luffy.

2

u/Chemfreak Oct 09 '22

Eh to me at least that wouldn't be a show of power more than for example him hitting a pacifista post-timeskip. Remember the strawhats couldn't touch pacifists pre time skip, then the trio easy diff them post. So pre-timeskip Lucci is <= a regular pacifista imo.

People don't understand how far away ennies lobby is. It was the arc Luffy first used G2 and G3.

If it was like an Usopp one shot that would be a good show of growth for the lower tier SHs.

29

u/jawunm Oct 09 '22

I see vegapunk giving someone those light gloves in a form of shoes so kizaru can be taken down

22

u/garveworm Oct 09 '22

Anyone who even stands a chance against admiral has haki

1

u/jawunm Oct 09 '22

Yeah but as we’ve seen against kaido and bm haki can only do so much against certain dfs.

2

u/Major_Somewhere Oct 09 '22

What are you talking about?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '22

haki isnt enough against g5

kaido had to use magma susano to match bajrang gun

4

u/jawunm Oct 09 '22

I was originally saying sanji could use the vegapunk tech that allows him to turn light into solid objects to fight kizaru since he’s made of light due to df.

Now as far as haki, I’m just saying haki doesn’t always negate logia abilities. Look at marineford. All of WB commanders could use haki yet Jozu still lost an arm to aokiji’s ice. Or the aokiji v akainu duel he lost his leg most likely to lava despite being a haki user.

2

u/Eckish Oct 13 '22

Haki isn't an instant win against logia. It just negates the logia immunity. You still have to be strong enough to deal out damage or take hits from them.

1

u/jawunm Oct 13 '22

I agree that’s why I said they may need vegapunk tech for kizaru instead of haki.

1

u/Bigtaint69 Oct 09 '22

Why use tech that allows him to turn light int solid objects when sea prism shoes would do the same and more?

2

u/jawunm Oct 09 '22

How are u gonna put sea stones on someone made of light? Remember how fast and how much ground kizaru covered during enies lobby. Not saying cnt be done but i see kizaru being taken out with science based off his df being light and he was wary of Ben beckman during marineford. (Could’ve been sarcasm) but beckman is a scientist in his own right so he could know how to deal with kizarus light factor

-28

u/KudaraVasu Oct 09 '22

This cringe fest is getting hella rushed lmao

rip

9

u/minivan-iob Oct 09 '22

So Vega punk is definitely gonna help the straw hats right? if the WG has put a green light on Vega punk and his clones the straw hats are gonna get help from atleast one or all of the Vega punks luffy may have to win them over one by one or some shit but I think none the less Vega punk or punks end up relying On the straw hats for something. it’s not out of the question that if these clones act completely separate from each other then motives can be coerced by some grand action that baffles even a scientist mind like Vegapunk who’s limits and realities know no boundaries. something the straw hats have a streak doing after beating two yonko at the same time and replacing them as a yonko crew themselves. I think if anyone can turn a mad scientist like Vega punk (who’d literally split himself among several people) it’s luffy the man is the impossible call it plot amour or extreme luck it’s a reality that happens time and time again.

8

u/FarSurvey3285 Oct 09 '22

Yes one or more of the vegapunk variants will be good and befriend the strawhats. Protecting the new ally opens the Lucci fight. I can't wait to see which characters leave this arc with upgrades. Luffy is ready for the final big fights but other strawhats could certainly use a boost.

1

u/Clownsta Oct 09 '22

Franky will get a massive boost imo. This can be his arc even

1

u/DeezRodenutz Bandit Oct 09 '22

I've thought all along that if Vegapunk's debut was ever actually meeting them rather than it being in the final war, then Franky was for sure getting upgrades and his arc focus.

With Franky spending so much time in the timeskip studying and using Vegapunk's old inventions, I figured Vegapunk was sure to recognize something in their ship's tech or in Franky's body itself as being similar to something he'd made years ago and potentially being impressed in how he used it/improved it.

I figure Punk1, which is likely the original brain, especially with how this chapter comments on how there are no worthwhile engineers who can understand their designs, will be surprised when Franky CAN understand and utilize them, and by the end the Vegas will help Franky upgrade a lot of their stuff before they leave.

10

u/MrOno Oct 09 '22

Lots being set up this chapter! What do you guys think Zoro wants Vegapunk’s help for? Maybe building him a cybernetic eye? That’s the first thing I thought lol

9

u/Ashethekoala Oct 09 '22

Cure for smile fruit

5

u/Quorbach Oct 09 '22

I thought about the same :)

28

u/Zestyclose_Armadillo Oct 09 '22

Sanji's going to be replaced by the cooking machine.

Stella could just be the clone template instead of the original Vegapunk.

I feel that Lucci's going to defect. He's asking too many questions and seems stressed out by the assignment.

4

u/Kimac5 Oct 09 '22

Sanji vs cooking machine will be the main fight of this arc

1

u/Zestyclose_Armadillo Oct 10 '22

Aye, that machine, it was fast, but Sanji was faster.

He proved to that thing that he was its master!

The gadget blew into bits and died with a boom.

The blast was so loud, it woke King Imu!

It was all over, finished and done.

With his head held up high, Sanji knew he had won.

The Straw Hats yelled, "Hooray, Vegapunk's name is now mud!"

But as they were cheering, Sanji fell with a thud.

The service was short, tears shed with regret.

Zoro, it seemed, was the one most upset.

2

u/Jack_Skeletron_4ever Oct 09 '22

Lucci for StrawHat?

7

u/200ms-INTric Oct 09 '22

Your last point is actually what i loved most about this chapter. It shows characterprogression from lucci and i think he can be quite interesting in the future

26

u/Cizarius Prisoner Oct 09 '22

Okay, I can’t help it. Theory time! What if the whole Lulusia island that the WG think they wiped out, was actually just a hologram. With so much emphasis on the holographic images this chapter, and the fact that CP0s motives were revealed this early in the arc, I’m theorizing those two are connected.

6

u/quip2022 Oct 09 '22 edited Oct 10 '22

This is the most unique theory I've ever read and I like it.

6

u/poerney_inc Oct 09 '22

I like that, wouldn't have come up with that one.

9

u/quarterslicecomics Bandit Oct 09 '22

So it occurred to me that the Automata look like a bunch of mustached Choppers. Like seriously, look at them. One of them even looks like Chopper in his Onigashima outfit. In addition, the Automata were created in Karakuri Island, where Vegapunk lived.

Also Blackbeard attacked Drum Island for some reason.

Could it be that the Automata were designed after the Hito Hito no Mi's hybrid form?

1

u/JoshHuff1332 Oct 09 '22

Most likely a coincidence imo.

2

u/Zestyclose_Armadillo Oct 09 '22

Or the other way around. The robots existed before the Birkans landed on Earth. They might have created a fruit based on their pals from the moon.

6

u/CourtOfSecrets Oct 09 '22

5

u/Beawoo12345 Pirate Oct 09 '22

You guys think this will be a short or long arc? I imagine it will be quite long considering theres a lot of important people involved

6

u/FarSurvey3285 Oct 09 '22

Short but packed with goodies.

7

u/Armano-Avalus Oct 09 '22

Short since this seems like it's gonna be more of a transitional arc. However at this point even "short" arcs nowadays are still pretty long.

1

u/poopoopeepeekek00 Oct 09 '22

20-30 chapters are generqlly good. I think this may be a good arc EZ

7

u/Cizarius Prisoner Oct 09 '22

Considering CP0 are already on their way, I’m betting this arc will be around 20-30 chapters. 10 chapters dedicated to info dumping. 5 or so building up the suspense with CP0. Then, 5 to 10 chapters leading to the conclusion. Hopefully, ends with Lucci as a Nakama… JK… unless y’all got some theories.

14

u/burizar Oct 09 '22

Less than 40 chapters info dump arch

Gonna be similar to Zou

2

u/Beawoo12345 Pirate Oct 09 '22

Sounds valid

Why's Bonney white?

4

u/DeezRodenutz Bandit Oct 09 '22

Because we need her to be allowed to live so the story can progress, and she's coming onto the same ship as Zoro

That was just in the anime for Robin iirc, not the manga

Oh my god u/Pinoy_2004, you can't just ask people why they're white.

2

u/Evil_phd Oct 09 '22

I don't like to spend too much time thinking about Bonney. It's confusing.

25

u/WonderScenery Oct 09 '22

Luffy almost going gear 5th over fake food had me rolling on the floor lmao he’s so precious.. and that Zoro and Robin moment was so so hype omg

13

u/rsatrioadi Explorer Oct 09 '22

This is somewhat a callback to when Robin invited herself to the Merry. She managed to distract everyone from the fact that she was possibly untrustworthy… except Zoro. So at the end Zoro and Robin was the only calm people among the chaotic crew members.

11

u/Cizarius Prisoner Oct 09 '22

Zoro has been getting the same hype since the Alvida days. I’m just glad Robin is FINALLY getting her share of the spotlight.

13

u/semi-bro Oct 09 '22

Aokiji? Don't be crazy guys. It's clearly Monet after awakening her Snow Fruit
