Gave Forspoken a second chance, it's actually pretty fun if you tweak the control settings! Discussion

I was really excited about this one, but wasn't impressed with the demo, and the way review codes and embargos were handled were only huge red flags. I ended up giving the demo another chance this weekend though before writing it off completely, and wow, the game is actually pretty fun if you make a small tweak to the controls.

My biggest issue was the dodge/run/magic parkour button being set to circle. Honestly, it sucks IMO. It means having to stop running to adjust the camera angle, it means having to choose between dodging and aiming in combat, it's just a terrible choice for mapping. After playing around a bit, I moved that button to L1, Dpad down to select support spell (also the button you hold with R1 to pick a different magic set), and the heal button to circle. It works SO much better. Being able to run, while adjusting the camera and jump makes such a world of difference exploring. Dodging, aiming, and slinging spells in combat feels so much smoother. I'm actually having fun with the game now, and may give it a chance. It's a real shame the default scheme is so terrible, I imagine it really hurt a lot of initial impressions of the game. It still has issues, sure, but this was my personal biggest one, and I actually find it pretty fun now!

People will, when it goes on sale.

14

u/keldpxowjwsn Feb 05 '23

Yeah I think the game looks fine but $70 is a bit steep. Even $35-45 id be ok with

8

u/ftkmatte Feb 06 '23

Ps plus gang gonna wait Lil bit longer

2

u/Ricky_Rollin Feb 06 '23

It’s going to be funny once this game goes on sale. I think many of us are on the $35 fence here. Myself included.

It's the price. The controls were already figured out during the beta with various posts giving good tips. The price is the problem and it will always be the largest problem with this game.

-8

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

I’m estimating I’ll probably end up with about 50 hr of gameplay when I hit platinum. Why is 70 too much for 50hrs of fun?

18

u/Koteric Feb 05 '23

You cant price a game based on the 100%. The population of completionists out there is really small relative to the amount of people playing games.

Not to mention most people didn’t think this game was fun or good. I had to put it down because I just found it boring, and the main character was just completely unlikeable for me.

I’m honestly glad you liked it and think it’s worth $70. But I find it outrageous to price this up with quality games like GoW. The quality wasn’t there.

-17

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

Most people saying it isn’t fun haven’t gotten out of the initial city or have only played the demo, which did the game a disservice imo. It is being received exceptionally well in places like Japan. The Forspoken subreddit is full of people living the game. It isn’t perfect but so far I’d put it between 80 and 85 out of 100.

Your last point is one that seems entitled to me. It isn’t solely this game that is seeing a price increase. Most games in this generation are being increased, and for good reason. Inflation has hit everyone very hard. Why are game studio excluded from those effects? Why should they not increase prices as the cost of living increases for their employees?

8

u/Koteric Feb 05 '23

Myself and a lot of people disagree with you. I’m glad you like it. But this is a 6 at best and really more of a 4 or 5 imo. It being well received in Japan and having a fan base on its subreddit isn’t speaking to the wider population that do not/did not like it. I played about 7 hours and just could slog through anymore.

It’s not entitled. Things need to be worth their price, or feel worth it. This game feels like a 30-45 game to me. It’s quality and tier pales in comparison to many other $70 games.

-20

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

You unlocked less than 25% of the abilities in the game at 7 hr. You can have your opinion, but it doesn’t really hold any weight when you haven’t even killed the first main boss. You haven’t gotten grapple or shimmy. Haven’t gotten a dedicated melee without cooldown. You haven’t really played the game tbh. It’s like me putting down the Witcher after 2hrs and saying it’s 4/10 at best because the mechanics are bad.

11

u/BlackGShift Feb 05 '23

Not everyone has the tolerance to slog through opening sections of a game they’re not enjoying. Especially a game they bought a full price. And you can’t discredit me because I’m actively playing the game, about 75% completed, somewhat enjoying it and will continue to do so. But to think my opinion is only one that’s valid because I stuck it out is ignorant at best.

-7

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

I’m not saying everyone needs to slog through it. I’m saying if you can’t, you should be spouting opinions about the game on the internet and then complain when you get called out. The game isn’t perfect, but everyone rating it less than 50% are just hating for the sake of hating.

3

u/BlackGShift Feb 05 '23

That works in both directions. Those of us who played it shouldn’t be shutting down any and all dissenting opinions like “they just don’t get it” when if anything, the negative feedback lies up moreso with the reviews of people who actually beat the game. The critical reception speaks for itself. This game has a hardcore pendulum effect where it’s put people who even moderately enjoy it in an echo chamber and not able to see any nuance on other perspectives that don’t align with yours.

1

u/Apprehensive-Bat3179 Feb 06 '23

Why can they not share their opinion that even after 7 hours they still couldn't enjoy the game?

Imo if a game is unable to keep you playing after 2 hours then it is a failure, let alone 7.

4

u/Nothxm8 Feb 06 '23

If the game isn't fun within 7 hours then that's not the players fault.

3

u/Eroy_52 Feb 05 '23

Bro I’m not gonna play through garbage just to unlock slightly better smelling garbage💀

0

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

That’s your choice. All I’m saying is don’t rate or review the game without playing it to completion.

3

u/Fuck__The__French Feb 06 '23

If you play a game for 7 hours and find it boring, it’s perfectly okay to say you found the game boring on a forum.

0

u/CrystlBluePersuasion Feb 06 '23

Inflation has hit everyone very hard. Why are game studio excluded from those effects? Why should they not increase prices as the cost of living increases for their employees?

What the actual fuck is this comment. So studios deserve my money even more than I do for earning it? And you're calling them entitled along with trying to sell them on $70 price points with this brilliant revelation.

I don't even care about the game, just wtf are you trying to say here.

0

u/Lebrunski Feb 06 '23

Everything, including game, costs more. Get used to it.

0

u/CrystlBluePersuasion Feb 06 '23

That has nothing to do with whether or not the game is worth it, what an actual dumb take.

0

u/Strooble Feb 05 '23

Because 70 is a lot of money. Many games give you as much fun, if not more for as long, if not longer, and almost always for cheaper.

Buying a game at release is never worth it outside of a few small cases like GoW, where there's a proven track record of the developers giving a complete, worthwhile experience on day 1.

-7

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

70 isn’t that much money for everyone. Roughly 2 hr at work for me. Less for people in better paying jobs than the one I have. If you are on minimum wage sure, that’s a lot of money. This is a game that is completely finished at release and I’m enjoying it for less than $2 an hour, so that’s no problem in my eyes.

9

u/BlackGShift Feb 05 '23

Being able to afford to buy something doesn’t make it worth spending money on. That’s basic financial literacy.

0

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

Okay, and? Doesn’t change the fact that the game is worth what it is being sold for.

7

u/BlackGShift Feb 05 '23

Based on what? I could have all the money in world and still deem something isn’t worth the price it’s being sold for.

-3

u/Lebrunski Feb 05 '23

Time spent enjoying it is a pretty simple metric. Most people are putting 35hrs into it. At $2 an hour, that’s pretty cheap entertainment. Not as good a ratio as Elden ring where you can easily get under $1 an hour, but better than something as short as the most recent Ratchet and Clank which is more like $3 an hour.

70 too much but 60 is fine? How about you don't get mcdonalds this week and out it towards a game?

7

u/Strooble Feb 05 '23

I didn't say 60 was fine. I generally buy at £40 or lower.

I also don't get fast food all the time so that's hardly relevant. Life is expensive right now for most people, it's hardly surprising lots of people can't or won't justify £70 for a game.

138

u/ichigo2k9 Feb 05 '23

It's funny to see people get upset when someone enjoys something they don't.

58

u/bazzbj Feb 05 '23

It’s sad really. They go out of their way to try to ruin your fun 😬

28

u/D0UNEN Feb 05 '23

Literally been the energy around this game since it’s release. Hell, don’t be a person who enjoys it AND won’t join the pitchfork brigade. You’re getting threatened, called expletives, etc.

It’s sad, really.

11

Ive been downvoted so many times for saying 'its an alright game'

The hate circlejerk is crazy around this game

Because forspoken is the worst game ever made /s

Its funny because all reviews say 'its not great or life changing but its alright' but people treat it like its balan wonderworld because of an out of context 15 second clip. Ive even seen reviews say the demo really isnt a good representation of the game and its better than that

Its just mostly people farming karma/upvotes/likes at this point. Especially when uncharted has the same corny dialogue (written by the same person!) but people consider it a masterpiece

0

u/Reallag Feb 06 '23

70 $ (or 80e here in europe) is criminal for "alright" game

-8

u/PayasoFries Feb 05 '23

I think it's less about them enjoying it and more about them posting on the internet for attention

10

u/ichigo2k9 Feb 05 '23

I would rather see someone posting about enjoying the game instead of another article from a journalist about why something is bad or a post complaining about a game.

I know negativity is more enjoyable on Reddit but there's also a place for positivity.

1

u/LoveMeSomeBerserk Feb 05 '23

How is posting a tip to Reddit looking for attention wtf?

-1

u/PayasoFries Feb 05 '23

My response was in reference to the guy who was confused about people downvoting the "HEY I JUST GOT INSERT GAME"

not talking about this specific post

2

u/keldpxowjwsn Feb 05 '23

Talking about games on a gaming subreddit 🤯🤯🤯

2

It looks decent but just doesn’t look like my type of game. I for someone reason feel like it should have done good? I don’t buy a lot of games. Only thing I’ve bought so far is Demon souls, Elden ring and returnal. Do plan on getting a psvr 2 though lol.

3

u/jchibz Feb 07 '23

In all honesty the more I play the more it feels like elden ring. Just without the ultra hard bosses. The world tells the story not the people.

6

u/WyrmHero1944 Feb 05 '23

You’re pretty much covered with those games lol excellent games

3

u/Significant_Pop_8590 Feb 05 '23

Haha! Definitely!

3

u/WyrmHero1944 Feb 05 '23

If you like those you might want to go for some of the Sony exclusives like Horizon, GoW and Ghost of Tsushima. They’re pretty decent but nothing like Elden Ring.

3

u/Significant_Pop_8590 Feb 05 '23

Was definitely wanting to check those all out. I did get the VR Horizon but I know that it won’t be anything like the full games.

2

u/WyrmHero1944 Feb 05 '23

Well you can start with the PS+ Collection can’t remember if you actually need PS+ to play them but they’re free if you get a PS5 also you need to try Bloodborne which is there, it’s a fucking masterpiece

I'm holding back on PSVR, just to see what Sony does with it. I've been a day one adapter for a few pieces of Sony hardware, like the Vita, the Move, etc, that they didn't keep their support up for and barely used after the launch.

I hope it does well. I'd LOVE to see a good headset with some good first party games.

I've been looking at Returnal. It looks hella cool, but sometimes I don't get along well with Roguelikes. I hate feeling like I made no progress at all when runs don't pan out.

2

u/Coban3 Feb 05 '23

Returnal is on ps+ ectra so you can try iy out. Thats what i did and im glad bc i got bored w the roguelike-aspect fairly early on

The game was clearly rushed out when it needed much more work. The cutscenes fade in and out so quick, and so many things that should have been cutscenes were just left for you to read about. They spent zero time on cutscenes. I’ve never seen something fade in and out of black so much.

4

u/Galactic_Druid Feb 05 '23

There's absolutely no question the game could, and probably should have been better. I really wanted to love it, not a ton of games out there where you get to play a mage who isn't a glass cannon/ranged character.

The worst part about it is I do feel the default controls really keep me from enjoying it as much as I could. Just a shame, there was so much potential here.

Still, with my modified setup, at least I found something I can enjoy.

This is why I highly suggest people invest in a back button mod kit or get the edge. Keeping your thumb on the sticks 95% of the time is what you want

0

u/Galactic_Druid Feb 05 '23

How hard are those mod kits to install? The edge would be super tempting if it was a bit less. I've fallen in love with back button and gyro controls lately thanks to the steam deck. Horizon ZD with Breath of the Wild style aiming was so much fun to play.

34

u/ichigo2k9 Feb 05 '23

44

u/TomClancy5873 Feb 05 '23

Not much different from having those countless posts about the witcher 3 being a good game

25

u/drelos Feb 05 '23

The Bloody Baron is the best written piece of literature since cuneiform writing started /s

2

u/SNKRSWAVY Feb 05 '23

I even platinumed the game a few years ago, was my comfort game for a good 6-7 months, I enjoyed my time with it, playing it absolutely unstressed, but damn, lately I have been really tired of the unreal praise it has accumulated.

Maybe I read it too often, but the topic could be about a whole other game and someone will just start: doesn’t compare to TW3 in any way - 🗑️. Like, that game has so many issues, it‘s way better than the sum of it‘s parts, but sometimes it feels like people got to it after playing AC and more casual games, got their first taste of a ,real’ RPG and were just flabbergasted by it‘s actually decent writing.

-32

u/GlitteringVillage135 Feb 05 '23

The difference being Witcher is actually good.

15

u/KingoftheJabari Feb 05 '23

-22

u/GlitteringVillage135 Feb 05 '23

Congratulations.

8

u/canad1anbacon Feb 05 '23

Nice visuals and side quests but the combat is dogshit. No way I can finish a 50+ hour game when it isn't fun to play

7

u/TomClancy5873 Feb 05 '23

It’s subjective. Personally, I think it’s overrated

4

u/funguyshy Feb 05 '23

While I cannot put it as overrated, I think it's not a mastepiece as many players and critics said

The game does a couple of things really well and nice, like the writing and the world lore/graphics ambient, etc. It lacks in every other aspect, exploring? Boring, combat? Boring and dull, rpg elements? LOL

How anyone can keep playing with the same 3 magic powers and the same combat for the whole game? It's baflng to me.

2

u/majorblack98 Feb 05 '23

That’s what I say! This discourse around it at the time eventually taught me that I should never give a rats ass about anyone’s opinion. I should like the games that I want to like not because someone told me that like them but because I find it appealing

-23

u/GlitteringVillage135 Feb 05 '23

And in the small minority you are.

9

u/SalemWolf Feb 05 '23

You’re really upset someone doesn’t like Witcher.

2

2

u/TraditionalHousing65 Feb 05 '23

You have strong opinions. What don’t you like about Forspoken?

-2

u/Hulksmashreality Feb 05 '23

Got bored 3 hours into the game. Got it for £3.99 (or so) on PSN and can't bring myself to play any further. Tried again when the current-gen version released, same deal.🤷‍♀️

-2

u/MitchenImpossible Feb 05 '23

Don't try to Bash Square Enix on this sub. They have an army of bots that downvotes anyone who posts anything but positive feedback on their games. They were my favourite developer 20 years ago and there games and understanding of western culture and appeal are absolutely 0 now. One of the worst untrustworthy developers that exist now, at least imo.

Witcher was game of the year. Forspoken is a 6/10 basically across the board by all reviewers.

You are completely correct in your comment.

0

u/hobo_lad Feb 05 '23

The huge difference is I'd be willing to spend 50 dollars or less on a game that is critically acclaimed than 70 dollars on a 69 opencritic game to see if I like it.

-22

u/aquileskin Feb 05 '23

Are you comparing one of the best games ever made to forspoken ???? You should get ban from this sub

65

u/LCHMD Feb 05 '23

It’s almost like some people enjoy a game and try to make people hear it, when everyone and their grandma have hated on the game god months without ever having played it.

-17

u/BoyzIIWolves Feb 05 '23

I doubt it would have nearly as many defenders if it wasn’t a console exclusive.

19

u/Galactic_Druid Feb 05 '23

I honestly couldn't think of a better place to talk about it. If I shared it on gaming or any PC reddit, all anyone would talk about are the requirements, which in fairness are pretty nuts.

11

u/AleroRatking Feb 05 '23

Because it's fun for many people and it's frustrating to only hear the bad about a game you enjoy. We saw a very similar thing with Days Gone.

13

u/RIPMrMufasi Feb 05 '23

People are trying the game for themselves rather than going off of rando opinions and my neighbors opinion on it

23

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '23

Because it is a fun game with great voice acting. The Reddit hive mind likes to find something and shit all over it. The game is legit fun and well made.

1

u/BoyzIIWolves Feb 05 '23

Every gaming podcast I listen to absolutely rips into the voice acting.

-2

u/Hulksmashreality Feb 05 '23

They're stupid. How did they play through any Gears, Halo, Final Fantasy or Yakuza game? Forspoken's VA is excellent (character animations are early last-gen though), the script is no worse than any of the games I mentioned. Somehow nobody died playing those games.

-4

u/3344668899 Feb 05 '23

the difference is the characters from those games are likeable, and nobody in forspoken is

2

u/Hulksmashreality Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23

1

u/theironicunicorn Feb 05 '23

I feel like the director of voice lines is the issue, not the script. I'm enjoying the game but I feel like her lines are trying too hard, when a more subtle approach would have sounded better.

-2

u/Xryme Feb 05 '23

The voice acting was great, story was satisfying. Even that clip everyone makes fun of “I just moved shit with my mind” means so much more after the ending.

-8

u/WyrmHero1944 Feb 05 '23

You forgot the /s mate

6

u/Ransei024 Feb 05 '23

Since people talk about the witcher...

Imagine someone says "The Witcher 3 is a 610 game, nothing more". Imagine people actually play the game. Imagine people says "WTF?! How this is a 610?" Imagine people go in the forum and say "This is definitly not a 610. Is actually good".

That's what happened with Forspoken. Pretty much this game is the new generation of this.

-1

u/Mundus6 Feb 05 '23

Nier was always a good game though. And it's basically the opposite to this game. Cause the gameplay is fun in Forspoken at least after you fix the controls. But the story is trash and its an open empty world for no reason, it should have been a character action game.

Nier has one of the most interesting and weird stories in a game ever. It was the gameplay and presentation that was lackluster. They fixed both in the remake imo. People praised Nier Automata story when it came out. It's good, but nothing game breaking compared to the original. But it had significantly better gameplay and presentation. Which is why it blew up.

4

u/Ransei024 Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23

The issue is that people talked on how Nier story was convoluted back then.

This game story isn't bad at all. Even some of the "cringe dialogue" is way better that what a lot of people believe if you search for the lore or even if you finish the game and do 1+1. Best example is the "Destuction and corruption are forms of creation in themselves." Is an actual big foreshadowing. But at the same time people believed was "cringe" and "filler".

So not really, sorry. That "bad dialogue and bad story" is just a massive meme that people unironically believed it.

4

u/NxOKAG03 Feb 05 '23

because there's a consensus that it's not very good so people feel the need to speak up when they're not in the consensus even though it doesn't really matter, because some people will love any game but the consensus that it's bad, as in most people won't like it, which is the only metric of "bad" that applies to something subjective like games.

6

u/MrDavidUwU Feb 05 '23

Cause it got so much unnecessary hate from a lot of people who didn’t give it a chance

5

u/cloudy710 Feb 05 '23

because it is and it’s been getting far too much hate imo

1

u/Hulksmashreality Feb 05 '23

-2

u/Knockemup Feb 05 '23

It's because the forspoken sub is practically dead so it gets more attention here. Trying to grasp attention before HL takes over discussions for the next 3 weeks. They also do have the self awareness to realize that dissenting opinions are not just hate trains.

4

u/Hulksmashreality Feb 05 '23

How pathetic do you have to be to lie about something like that? All anyone has to do is sort threads by "new".

The irony of trying to claim it isn't a hate train while using lies to make your point. Lol

I'm not making any assumptions. You're lying to make a point. You wouldn't need to if you didn't care or you're unbiased. The game has many flaws, I wouldn't lie to point them out.

Where did anyone say you can't? I said it's pathetic that you have to do that. There are many products and games I don't like, would never cross my mind to lurk in their subs or forums for some weird hate boner.

Hog warts look pretty bland. Nobody will care about it after one week besides its Harry Potter. That ui looks like dragon age inquisition…….

People trying to justify their $70 purchase

8

u/Galactic_Druid Feb 05 '23

Haven't even bought it yet, to be honest, but I think I'm going to give it a try after the control scheme thing. I thought I'd share because I know I can't be the only one who was excited about this who had a really bad first impression.

6

u/Dependent_Map5592 Feb 05 '23

It Just gets better and better. You wont regret the purchase

5

u/danbearpig84 Feb 05 '23

Does it? I was grinding a ton doing all possible content before the first Tanta battle but I soon as I finally got the fire powers after 30+ hours into the game I started getting bored really quickly, idk the fire powers weren't as cool as I thought they would be

0

u/Dependent_Map5592 Feb 05 '23

Yes. Absolutely. If you're getting bored after you unlock more spells And powers and combos (and basically everything)you're clearly doing something wrong. Figure out what you're missing!!! Maybe you don't know about the left and right on the dpad switching spell sets? Do you have support spells to auto swap? Just some initial thoughts I had 🤷‍♂️

Getting the 2nd (fire spell) should do the opposite of what you experienced. It should open the game up and refresh it for you.

I just enabled toggle for parkour instead of hold, it’s much better for me that way because I can keep running and use the camera at the same time, but keep the controls the same.

I’m about 40 hours in and still really enjoying it, so it’s definitely been worth it for me. It’s probably going to be a game I keep installed to pick up and play now and then, because I love the combat (and it loads in under 10 seconds which is great). Still have large areas of the map that I haven’t been to yet as well.

2

u/randomlybalanced Feb 05 '23

Cool, but no thanks

0

u/VagrantCoyote Feb 05 '23

Wait until the game is at least half off.

2

u/aenyeweddienn Feb 05 '23

The game has it's problems, it's mot perfect, but it's not as bad as the demo, and nowhere near as bad as some reviews. Demo did a lot of damage, I hated it, but got the game anyway and don't regret it

Dude I totally get it, that demo did NOT sell me on this game at all! If anything, it actually probably hurt my chances of giving it a fair try. There's a few things I still don't like, especially some of the writing, but the controls were one of the worst parts for me. Glad I gave it a shot though.

-1

u/GodsGift2HotWomen69 Feb 05 '23

You didn't like the demo and saw the middling reviews and still bought the game?

It's not about the money, it's about respecting your time.

Probably a paid shill IMO lmao

18

u/o_o_o_f Feb 05 '23

Can you take people at their word that they enjoy something you don’t?

-2

u/2KareDogs Feb 05 '23

Provably not

1

u/LCHMD Feb 05 '23

The gameplay in the demo was actually really fun once one got used to it. It’s the terrible dialogue that put most people off.

1

u/LCHMD Feb 05 '23

I agree…in the demo the sensitivity also was way too low. Makes quite the difference.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '23

"Days Gone" suffered from a similar cold shower at the release but ended to get the recognition and players it deserved. It could be the same for that one, because it plays great and there are tons of things to do in-game. My main complaint would be to not have more hiding option for combat UI (damage numbers etc.).

1

u/Street-Plankton-8495 Feb 05 '23

I’ll get it when it goes on ps+ extra

1

u/jgiv817 Feb 05 '23

That's cool, we'll wait for the sale or free

1

u/RevealerofDarkness Feb 05 '23

Yeah the controls are ass

-2

u/odjrkskdmdks Feb 05 '23

thats sounds pretty nice, gonna give that a try too, thanks!

3

u/Galactic_Druid Feb 05 '23

No problem, I hope it improves things for you! For me, it's the difference between being able to enjoy the game and not. I hated having to stop running just to look another direction while exploring, for starters.

Cope - Episode: 864.

0

u/beefcake_sweepstake Feb 05 '23

Nothing to do with controls or gameplay, they're pretty standard for open world games, nothing awful but nothing special, it's the awful writing and dialogue, some of the worst I've heard.

-27

u/Keeeso89 Feb 05 '23

Whatever you need to do to trick yourself into thinking its good.

21

u/OptimusPrimalRage Feb 05 '23

You know, you play war zone. What would you tell someone that says it's a POS? Stop playing? I don't understand the purpose of your statement. Different people derive value out of things. Stop crapping on someone for enjoying something you don't like and most likely haven't even played. The game isn't harmful. Just let it go.

10

u/LCHMD Feb 05 '23

It got more 7s and 8s than any other score. However you wanna hate on it that’s still good. Not very good or great or amazing but still good.

17

u/o_o_o_f Feb 05 '23

This exactly. It’s such a medium game, I’m blown away at the hate some people are giving it. I’m 20 hours in and enjoy it. It’s not GOTY, it doesn’t need to be. I bought it to kill a few dozen hours and am having a good time doing exactly that

Inb4 someone jumps in saying I’m lying to myself bc sunk cost fallacy

-5

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23

I mean, it’s fine to have fun, but paying the premium current gen price for medium quality just seems like a big ask for many.

EDIT: Looks like the folks trying to justify their purchase have arrived. Yikes.

6

u/o_o_o_f Feb 05 '23

Perfectly rational take. I’m just tired of the low effort hate the game is getting. If people were explaining their problems like you just did that’d be totally fine, but the hate this game is getting isn’t proportional (in my opinion) to a perceived (mostly just assumed) mismatch in quality vs price

So you were too lazy to look up the review ratings and just took the overall number which was dragged down by troll reviews?

0

u/3344668899 Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23

It’s at 69 on open critic and 30% recommended. Abysmal for a AAA exclusive game

→ More replies

-7

u/MichaelRoco1 Feb 05 '23

After looking it up, it appears that it definitely didn’t receive more 7 and 8s than any other score. Meta critic alone shows an overwhelming majority of players rating it around 40-70, the average being 65%. The average on Steam is 60% and that’s rounding up.

Edit: spelling

0

u/LCHMD Feb 05 '23

Players? Are you kidding me? This game was heavily Review bombed by XBox fans and haters alike..most have never played the game.

Should be obvious I was taking about professional reviews here.

2

u/chubby_cheese Feb 05 '23

Yeah. For a game like this, player scores don't mean crap. It's heavily biased.

0

u/sicknick08 Feb 05 '23

I didnt think a game would go on sale faster than deathloop, but this is most likely the one. Will be a ps plus freebie by summer

-10

u/singelingtracks Feb 05 '23

20 dollar game. It'll be cheap soon enough.no reason to pay full price for a lower quality game.

-13

u/Snoo_9332 Feb 05 '23

To be honest, I looked at both the technical details, the gameplay mechanics and the open world structure. It's a terrible game with outdated shitty gameplay design, poor optimisation and poor art design.

Why give the game a chance at all?

2

u/Galactic_Druid Feb 05 '23

You're not wrong about any of that, it's launch was an effing disaster. The best reason I have is that I love the idea of the game. So many fantasy titles out there treat spellcasters as this slow, fragile class that hangs back and charges attacks, the idea of playing one whose fast and powerful and using that same magic system to zip around an open world sounded really cool. I really wanted to like this one. I'll be the first to admit it's far from perfect, and holy shit it's PC optimization is a mess, and even on the console I had to redo the controls to enjoy it, lol, but I do enjoy zipping in and out of combat with the scheme I set up.

1

u/Snoo_9332 Feb 05 '23

I can't blame you for liking the game. I have not only played good games and sometimes not without pleasure. I already in the days of Shadow of Mordor couldn't digest games with only mechanics.

u/Popskiey Feb 05 '23

Ive only played the demo and 2 things put me off. 1 the controls. It was just uncomfortable and unintuitive. The other was how big the world was and yet there was nothing in it. Spent ages running through an empty world that was unnecessarily large. It just wasn't fun and felt like a chore. Im sure the full game feels different
