Awesome, thanks for the excellent post!

Ps5 in comparison with PS4 pro. How and where does it fit. Is it worth the hype in terms of technology, games.

1

u/Joedoed Jun 15 '20

Lets wait for the teardown I heard they got a large heatsink under that large hood.

u/Grushiman Jun 13 '20 edited Jun 13 '20

To be honest , both the PS5 and XBSx have impressive hardware ... Whiles the Sx edges the PS5 in terms of raw specs, it's all down to how developers utilize these resources in their software / games ... Quiet frankly, if most developers can harness 80% of power of PS5 or Series X , we will see some truly next gen experience. When you are into a game woth a good story , I don't think your will really care about how the hair on your champions head is being rendered at 4k or 8k

But then again ... 3rd party developers will go via common denominator approach because they are also a business and they will want to do more with less e.g. maximize their profits by minimizing development cost. This is a fact we have to deal with. Unless it's an exclusive

Pricing will be the most interesting thing after the reveal for both Series 1 and PS5. Are these specs coming at a price that gamers are willing to pay for ? e.g. <$400 ? This is a real dilemma for both Sony and MS and I just hope gamers will be the winners here 🤞🏿... The PS5 has 2 variants and Series X is rumoured to have something similar ... with a number of accessories such as cameras , media remote, headset etc. Are you willing I o pay say $700 for an all inclusive PS5 bundle ? 😀 interesting times ahead. Pricing may be that one thing that may likely determine which console most people will get, especially casual gamers. Are we going to have a version 2 of the all digital consoles with a detachable disk drive ? 😀

Some are also not happy about launch titles but I think Sony has a lot of first party titles ... just that there may not be new entries at launch but you can be sure you will get a new GOW, TLOU3, uncharted etc in 2 to 3 years to come. MS has have some exclusives as well which will surely get some a new entry into the series as the yrs to come

Which one will you buy ? It will largely depend on the ff

  1. Sony loyalists will stay with the PS5 even if it retails at $600, same same for Xbox loyalists. These are the outliers ...

  2. Does exclusives mean a lot to you? I came from 360 to PS4 and did I enjoy Halo and Forza ? Yes, did I miss them when I switched ? NO... And if I should switch to Series X would I miss GOW and uncharted ? NO most likely because most of the games are enjoy and have time to play are available on both systems. Sony has an edge here.

  3. Price - this will be the deal breaker for most especially casual gamers

  4. Which syarem is your friends getting ? It then again , with the push to digital downloads and subscription ... People have 2 less reason not to bother . At the time I picked up my PS4 , most of the people I know who are into console games were on PS4 , so it was a logical decision for me as we get to exchange games ...

It's gonna be interesting in the coming months....

One thing for sure .... I am not buying a console before June 2021 though 🤣

Really disappointed in the graphical capabilities.

Why do all these ps5 games look like ps4 games?

3

u/JayCalavera Jun 15 '20

They don't, it's just the stream isn't high quality enough to appreciate the details

5

u/Hotwheels101 Jun 13 '20

The stream was locked to 1080p 30fps to put ease on developers working remotely. Because graphics can't go much further at the moment because environments are photoreal and character models extremely detailed. It is more focused gaming capability and the gaming experience because for some reason everyone thinks the graphics is the most important thing well actually it's the gaming experience for example the new ratchet and clank takes full advantage of the SSD and and you can now see ratchets individual fibers of hair in the gameplay not just in cinematics, Clank also has RTX

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '20

These games are in 4K and run at 60 FPS, just saying. There haven’t been any games that fully utilize raytracing yet either.

4

u/Richmard Jun 13 '20

Because it’s the beginning of the next gen? lol

How about comparing them to the launch titles of PS4

-4

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

Sure.

Killzone Shadow Fall.

It was a PS4 launch title and looks pretty much as good as Deathloop and also looks better than many of the other PS5 trailers like Godfall.

1

u/Richmard Jun 14 '20

I just watched some gameplay and you've got some heavy rose-tinted glasses on lol

1

u/DrakierX Jun 14 '20

Really?

Killzone Shadow Fall (PS4)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jbhZUmk9f9k

Godfall (PS5)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oal1EbvDxCk

If you tell me that Godfall looks better or even an entire generation better, then I’ll be inclined to think you got some heavy placebo/fanboy glasses on lol

1

u/Richmard Jun 14 '20

It by no means looks horrible but look at that dust around 3 minutes in.

1

u/DrakierX Jun 14 '20

You’re right, it doesn’t look horrible (especially for a launch title).

What does look horrible are the grass, leaves, and plants in the Godfall (PS5) trailer.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '20

You know what would be great? If they addressed the issue that causes the controller to lose Bluetooth connection for no reason. Hopefully that’ll be improved.

3

u/ThatLastGenGamer Jun 13 '20

It boggles my mind how they released the Dualshock 4 Back Button Attachment just a couple of months ago and the Dualsense doesn't even have back paddles. If the previous BBA isn't at least compatible, that'll be pretty disappointing.

1

u/ukie7 Jun 13 '20

I'm glad to see the focus is on games this gen for Sony. Some weird ass games on display, (Bugsnax wtf loooool), but all in all a good showing. One thing that irks me is I don't dig the white on the design. If they made a black version that would be mint.

-1

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

Really disappointed in the graphics of these games.

They all look like ps4 games.

1

u/apolovtcev Jun 13 '20

damn future is now

6

u/stauboga Jun 13 '20

No game preview really was an eye opener to me (except Horizon that left me in awe). I really wanted to get hyped about the graphics and was expecting tech demo level graphics but all i saw was like "ps4pro can do that". What do you think?

3

u/Strained_Eyes Jun 14 '20

That's funny because Horizon was the one that was just full on CG, it did look breathtaking though but I wish we saw gameplay.

You also gotta keep in mind games like ratchet and clank are loading entire levels in an instant like with the click of a button you go through a rift and entire assets are fully loaded no pop in either. Also the ray tracing in that game is incredible, idk if you watched in 4k but wow the floor and clank are so sweet.

I'll give you an example, games like spiderman ps4 can't really do reflections properly, it's more of this cube technique but the bottom line is reflections until now have been artificial. With ray tracing we are getting bouncing light and real time reflections and that's just automatic, when developers MAKE full use and take time to fully utilize this, games are going to look pretty picture like I'm telling ya.

1

u/stauboga Jun 14 '20

Did not know about Horizon beeing the only full CG one. And that fact gives me hope. Just cannot get over that fact that these CGI looked much better than most of the cinematic ones from other shown games. That is just bad advertising in my opinion. I will hop on the ray tracing excitement train. I watched a few videos in YouTube about it and i am totally looking forward to that. I know developers need time to fully master the tools they now have. It just seemed to me developers were talking about ray tracing quite a long time and that the only lag about it was the capability of the hardware...so if that is their killer argument to sell that console, well you have to show it. Tbh i did not watch it in 4K and i'll get the argument that i cannot really be judgy if i don't have the hardware for it but hear me out. I watched the UnrealV engine tech demo on the same screen as the ps5 show and that was just mind-blowing. That very demo was totally captured on ps5 and i saw a BIG improvement in graphics there just on a 2K screen. Why did i not see that in the show from Sony that should people get in shut up and take my money mode?

0

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

I swear these PS5 games look like PS4 games.

Graphics-wise that was super underwhelming.

0

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

It’s not all about graphics and I’m happy about it. The majority of the games got me excited and looked fun to play except oddworlds and the furry high school game

1

u/stauboga Jun 13 '20

Totally agree about "it's not all about graphics". Some of the beste games i played were not AAA graphics. I just don't see buying a new console to play games the older generation of that console supports in the same way. It just seems like "we have this game in development and need a reason for you to buy the ps5 so we just make it an exclusive to the next generation although we could easily bring it out now without any loss of playfulness". Don't get me wrong but if improvement in graphics is not THE selling reason for a new console - what is?

2

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

The new ratchet and clank can’t run on a PS4 but doesn’t have realistic graphics.

1

u/stauboga Jun 13 '20

Yeah, they explained that and i get that ssd-speed-argument. I just think that just new game design possibilities is a bit weak argumenting for buying a new console. I love Sony and PS and i will get that console anyways but that was just not that "killer show" i hoped for.

1

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

It was for me and the vast majority though

0

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

But it looks and plays just like a PS4 game,

1

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

Not true. It is not at all possible on PS4. It depends on the PS5’s SSD, like most of the games shown. IMO, this gen is going to be more about game design and making what wasn’t possible before possible than photorealism.

3

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

Be honest: For most of those trailers, if someone were to tell you they were PS4 titles would you be immediately shocked?

Say what you will about other features, the visual leap in graphics is super underwhelming.

2

u/HEAVENBELONGSTOYOU Jun 13 '20

It takes a while. Look at the graphics of Oblivion vs Skyrim. Same console generation. PS5 will look really good in two to three years

2

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

Yeah I get that there’s still significant room to grow. It’s still really disappointing if you compare it to the transitions of previous generations.

Remember PS1->PS2? PS2->PS3?

When you saw a PS2 launch title you instantly knew it wasn’t a PS1 game. When you saw a PS3 launch title, you instantly knew it wasn’t a PS2 game.

PS5 launch titles can easily pass off as PS4 games.

1

u/FalcieGaiah Jun 14 '20

What were people expecting really? Resolution is reaching a point where you barely see poly's , textures are scans and can't be better unless you use cinematic textures like the UE5 trailer, and the tech didn't evolve that much besides Ray Tracing which with it's limited use in videogames it's barely noticeable and makes a big performance difference. UE5 uses some interesting stuff, but it's years before anyone makes a title with those features.

Older consoles had huge resolution and poly bumps that's why it was so noticeable.

1

u/stauboga Jun 13 '20

By now i absolutely agree with you. Some previews also had a watermark like "pre-alpha" so might be some pushing of graphics before releasing.

3

u/KMC_LDN Jun 13 '20

Respectfully disagree. View the trailers in 4K and Grant Turismo and Horizon looked absolutely fantastic. The game play from Gran Turismo was jaw dropping.

0

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20 edited Jun 13 '20

I did. It still looks like a PS4 game.

1

u/KMC_LDN Jun 13 '20

Okay

1

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

I’m not trying to be stubborn.

If you had told me any of those showcased games were PS4 titles I would’ve believed you.

Maybe for some of the titles I’d be pleasantly surprised how good they look for a PS4 game but I definitely wouldn’t think it’s impossible that a PS4 can do it.

1

u/stauboga Jun 13 '20

Maybe the "only" 2K of my screen were the reason...certainly that ist a point! But i doubt that oddworld or that bug-forest game improve the experiences in beeing 4k. They wouldn't lag playfulness on the ps4/pro. I was just hoping for a Lot of these "woooooow, look what's possible today"-moments. I am aware of programers improving graphics over the consoles lifetime and this is just the start of ps5 but that jump right now seems not as big as my expectations were.

2

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

Glad someone else feels this way.

If someone were to tell me these were PS4 titles I would’ve totally believed them.

I was prepared to be blown away by the leap in graphics.

Remember PS1->PS2? PS2->PS3?

0

u/stauboga Jun 13 '20

Same! I mean...i know it's not AAA graphics right from the beginning and there are some graphical signitures to some games like Ratchet&Clank...i totally get that but it was just not that "milestone change in graphics" i expected. First i thought the big hoax is to reveal that all shown humans were rendered ones!! Uff - that would have been just WOW!

2

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

Yeah. And it also doesn’t address the fact that previous generation console reveals have been milestone changes despite being launch titles.

I look at the PS5 Miles Morale character model and think he looks like a PS4 character model and recall that some PS4 models arguably look even better.

1

u/stauboga Jun 14 '20

Exactly! It just feels like they dug deep and found IPs that many poeple will buy a new console for. Feeling young again and relive childhood memories with the same heroes/heroines is a Point i get - love that myself! But that "we offer you these experiences you have to buy a new console for despite we could just do that on the existing generation of consoles" vibe feels not that good. Same thought about Miles btw!

1

u/OhSnaps08 Jun 13 '20

Will there be games released as different versions for PS4 and PS5? I know most newer PS4 games will run on a PS5 . . . but will there be any with a complete second version of the game branded as PS5 with additional features/content or graphics upgrades?

2

u/WarOnThePoor Jun 13 '20

I feel like final fantasy VII remake part 2 will do this.

1

u/last_rule Jun 13 '20

We probably won't see FFVII Remake Part 2 for another 5 years or so.

There likely won't be a PS4 version lol

1

u/WarOnThePoor Jun 13 '20

They said the whole thing will be available on ps4 once it’s all said and done. Also they even said they would churn out the other parts a lot quicker.

1

u/last_rule Jun 13 '20

I sure hope so but I'm not expecting it.

1

u/fireboltzzz Jun 13 '20

I’m really interested in seeing how the overall quality of the party chat is gonna be this time around. Coming from Xbox one the voice quality on PS4 is quite a downgrade. Not downright unusable or anything but it’s noticeable.

1

u/Gaspard_de_la_nuit Jun 13 '20

Have you all seen the estimated console size comparison? The PS5 is allegedly a BEHEMOTH.

4

u/warpoetry Jun 13 '20 edited Jun 13 '20

Can't wait for Spider-Man:MM, Horizon (2021? 22?), Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet and Clank, Kena, Returnal, Deathloop, Destruction Allstars, and a few others. Love the design but I'm not gonna lie the apparent size does concern me with regards to where I can put the damn thing. A+ show though.

2

u/LiangHu Jun 13 '20

Overall Im pretty impressed by the games shown.

Although most of these games couldve been done on PS4 as well with about the same graphics, it was still a pretty good PS5 show.

Has Sony mentioned whether we can play PS4 games on PS5 too?

Also does the PS+ subscription also continue on PS5 or do we have to make a new PS5+ 1 year subscription for that?

0

u/DrakierX Jun 13 '20

There was literally no game shown where I was like “This is impossible on the PS4”

If you told me that any of those games were PS4 titles I would totally believe it.

1

u/MonstersUGrad98 Jun 13 '20

Heartily recommend watching the 4K versions. I thought the same thing before watching.

2

u/warpoetry Jun 13 '20

PS5 is PS4 backwards compatible. But due to the faster hard drive speeds they have to test each game on a case by case basis, and they expect around 100 games to be certified b/c for launch.

0

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

They are expecting the majority of the 4000+ games on PS4 to be available on PS5. Those ‘100’ games are what they were currently testing to be enhanced for PS5. Please do your research before trying to inform others

1

u/YinYang09 Jun 13 '20

I really hope that the ps4 is still supported for a long time. I kinda regret buying the ps4 :(

2

u/DrKrFfXx Jun 13 '20 edited Jun 13 '20

Come on, if you just bought it, you have like 6 years worth of games to get up to speed. Usually launch window games are just filler.

3

u/warpoetry Jun 13 '20

trade it in towards a PS5? PS5 will have ps4 b/c at least.

5

u/ace-LA Jun 13 '20

Dude PS4 is great has so much! How could you regret

1

u/Stevenwithavee Jun 13 '20

PS2 had a long lifetime. The PS4 came out winter 2013 and I bought Persona 5 on PS3 on release day because it was cheaper. If you're like me, and buy consoles as soon as it drops, you'll be fine.

2

u/Shock-Light123 Jun 13 '20

It's probably going to be supported for 2 more years

1

u/ogomeslp Jun 13 '20

My request would be to make Streaming painlessly easy so we don't need a capture card anymore. I recently purchased a cc and gameplay audio don't pass through it's crazy to get this up and running. Also include streaming to all platforms

1

u/distance7000 Jun 13 '20

I want to know if the battery life is going to be better on the controllers.

2

u/pinkbunniesrcool Jun 13 '20

It will be for sure

4

u/DeanCutty Jun 13 '20

Apologies if this has been "resolved" (if you even wanna call it that) but has anybody else noticed that the Dualsense trailer didn't mention the touchpad at all? Right? Am I mental?

2

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

Old feature that’s why. But they did show the audio jack...maybe because some were questioning wether it had one or not?

5

u/tinselsnips Jun 13 '20

Not surprising, really; it was a new feature presentation and the touch pad is, as far as we know, exactly the same.

1

u/DeanCutty Jun 13 '20

I get the logic, but why show the audio jack then? Perhaps we could put that down to 3.5mm jacks being quite the controversy currently.

4

u/thedeatheater1410 Jun 12 '20

Will the DS4 work on PS5? I have a bit of collections of controllers and I don't want them to be useless since I am planning to sell my PS4 to partially fund the PS5 purchase

2

u/theorganicpanic Jun 13 '20

I hope so, IIRC the DS3 worked on the PS4 so it would make sense to continue that trend. Doesn't seem like the tech for DS5 is changing too much from 4. Who knows, there's no telling until the console comes out.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '20

How would touch pad work on the DS3 tho? I know you can use a DS4 on the ps3 but I’m not sure if it works the other way round

1

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

The select button?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '20

The touch pad can sometimes be two buttons though, left and right side

3

u/Pyraptor Jun 12 '20

Hi community,

I wanted to ask if anyone knows if Sony is planning to do an event presenting the PS5 like they did with past consoles. Like showing the new features, price, etc... Thanks guys.

3

u/karmakillerbr Jun 13 '20

Yes they are. Probably in August

9

u/ecxetra Jun 12 '20

I wasn’t going to buy a PS5 at launch but then I saw Spider-Man and well...

1

u/babygoinpostal Jun 13 '20

SM won't be out til 2021 right? Or is it launch?

5

u/alexshinsuke Jun 13 '20

Miles Morales is coming this year

1

u/babygoinpostal Jun 13 '20

Haha did you ask if I was blind then edit it? Perhaps I am because I completely missed it on the trailer

1

u/alexshinsuke Jun 13 '20

It was on the ending of the trailer. It would be Impossible to miss it. But yah i was being rude só i edit it. Its a standalone game like Lost legacy but its Spider man 1.5 its a prequelish for Spider man 2

8

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

My question: Is Sony and Microsoft really waiting to price based on the other? I ask, because it seems to me that there isn’t a lot of middle of the road people, who could buy one or the other and not mind which they get? I only play PS4. I love Sony exclusives. I’m not going to buy an Xbox. There has to be the same feelings among Xbox folks. I know not everyone is like me, of course, but are there really that many players who will buy one or the other at launch, depending on cost? And are there enough of those players to make a difference in overall profit?

2

u/last_rule Jun 13 '20

I have both and love both.

But PlayStation is in the stone age when it comes to competing with GamePass. That's the best value in gaming and it's not even close.

3

u/tomarlyn Jun 12 '20

I thinks there is a ton more middle of the road people than before, based on specs and XBOX’s recent acquirement of more studios. But the XBOX team is clueless about the console gaming market and I think Sony is going to wipe the floor with them again.

5

u/Cybernetic343 Jun 13 '20

Xbox really needs some hard hitting exclusives if it wants to stand a chance. More than just Halo. PlayStation brought their A game yesterday with Horizon, Demon Souls and Spider-Man. Demon Souls especially is the game most of the Souls community have wanted to play for years but couldn’t without getting a PS3.

1

u/Bob25Gslifer Jun 12 '20

Will the games coming this fall like Spiderman miles Morales be released in PS4 and ps5? Like when the Xbox one and PS4 dropped they were available on 360 and PS3 too?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '20

Sony said a few weeks ago they don't want to do cross-gen titles for 1st parties, as they don't want them to be held back by the limits of the PS4.

-4

u/rcade81 Jun 13 '20

I think there's a pretty good chance Spiderman Miles Morales is on PS4 as well as PS5

1

u/existential_virus Jun 12 '20

Does anyone know if I'll be able to play my ps4 discs on PS5? I have a shit load of ps4 games that I want to replay eventually.

5

u/Bob25Gslifer Jun 12 '20

Yeah PS4 discs will run in ps5.

1

u/last_rule Jun 13 '20

How do you know that? They haven't even confirmed which games are supported

1

u/existential_virus Jun 13 '20

Hell yes! Thank you!

-9

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Sorry, but the design is absolutely horrible.. who would want that on their tv stand/entertainment center? :-(

3

u/Tidusx145 Jun 13 '20

I would. I'm a fan of the rounded white design.

2

u/--_-_o_-_-- Jun 13 '20

Me. My tv is black and my entertainment unit is white. The unit has LED lighting that I can set to blue, perfectly matching my PS5.

1

u/Cybernetic343 Jun 13 '20

Yeah I really hate how white the design is. I’m just so used to consoles being black and fading into the shadows out of mind while I play. The disk tray making the design asymmetric is also throwing me off.

u/deimos-chan Jun 12 '20

I have one question - will it support USB headphones?

It is very important for me, since I don't use a standard TV, I use a sound-less monitor and a USB-audio card to provide me with sound for both PS3 and PS4. A quaility TV will cost a lot of money, and I want to know if I need that kind of invesment to enjoy PS5, or if I can just keep using my USB sound card, that worked for PS3 and PS4 for PS5.

0

u/Carsonius_Beckonium Jun 12 '20

I think it will likely be the same situation as the PS4, you can use an auxiliary headset with the controller, and play the console audio through the headphones plugged into your controller. It maybe possible, but I'm not sure.

1

u/deimos-chan Jun 12 '20

Well, just so we are on the same page, I am not talking about the 3.5mm headphone jack on the controller, bur rather the USB type A headphones support. This is the USB sound card I use right now: https://i.imgur.com/XgVWRl1.png

1

u/Wrasserman Jun 12 '20

Will the digital version have online for free? Or will the games still be available when downloaded without Internet?

7

u/tomarlyn Jun 12 '20

You should expect to have to pay for PlayStation Plus for online gaming with either version.

2

u/Carsonius_Beckonium Jun 12 '20

You'll need internet, but you won't need PS+ unless you want in-game online features like multiplayer. You don't need PS+ to go on the store, or download games you've purchased online. Just an internet connection.

1

u/ChocAss Jun 13 '20

You also need a connection to play them though too, at least initially to open them, so it can check you have the licence.

1

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

That’s not true

1

u/ChocAss Jun 13 '20

Yes it is

1

u/Carsonius_Beckonium Jun 13 '20

Right, to play digital you have to be connected to the internet, but you don't have to have PS+.

2

u/ChocAss Jun 13 '20

Yeah sorry I just thought I would clarify although I know that’s not what the guy asked

As someone who last owned the PS2 before switching to Xbox I gotta say I'm on the brink, I really am.

Might just go crazy on my wallet and buy this and a Lockheart.

1

u/bigcontracts Jun 13 '20

It's the exclusives for me.

2

u/Slashycent Jun 13 '20

Same. As a singleplayer guy who loves high quality action RPGs games like Kena, Spider-Man or Horizon 2 make me mad jealous.

I'll have to wait and see what the July event holds for Xbox, but I'm already swerving towards PS this Gen.

4

u/tomarlyn Jun 12 '20

Unless XBOX really truly gets some must have EXCLUSIVES then I won’t bother with them for another generation now. So far they are still out of touch with console gamers.

2

u/RandyKrittz Jun 12 '20

Idk man, Forza, Halo, and Gears seem pretty fun for the Xbox titles... Plus they had some common sense to release the games for PC gamers...

Sony finally decided to do that as well... I wonder if KH will ever come to PC tbh, or would it be upscaled even further on PS5.

-4

u/PowerGoodPartners Jun 12 '20

Halo and Gears are the big gay. Halo hasn't been good since the first one and Gears art style is inspired by dirty potatoes.

2

u/cshadow350z Jun 13 '20

I bought the Halo Xbox one because of Halo 5. My first disappointment was not being able to play split screen and then the story went downhill from there.

0

u/tomarlyn Jun 12 '20

The franchises like Halo and Gears are really great and I have much fondness for them. But so far after all this time that’s all from XBOX. They’re great franchises, but they’ve got nothing else in the tank, or at least worth showing yet. I know MS has thrown money at new studios/projects recently, but I don’t trust them to stay exclusive to the XBOX platform at all.

Personally I’m fine with Sony porting their top games to PC, but it’s seems like they will only do that towards the end of a consoles lifetime, still making your original PlayStation purchase worth it.

2

u/alterego87 Jun 12 '20

Dunno man just bought an Xbox and as for the exclusives on it at the moment. I wasn’t all that impressed. Halo was great and Gears was cool I guess but definitely lacking in terms of single player exclusives. Unless I’m missing something.

-9

u/justenough91 Jun 12 '20

Ghosts of Tsushima looks better than anything Sony showed. That's underwhelming.

0

u/PowerGoodPartners Jun 12 '20

Not everything is made for weebs.

-9

u/faxajogasz Jun 12 '20

It might just be only me, but I'm pretty dissapointed, that "next-gen gaming" means just a graphical update and not a gameplay one too (real, BoTW like physics engine, better AI etc.).

2

u/kkodev Jun 13 '20

BOTW? It’s like Witcher on lowest settings. Cmon

2

u/faxajogasz Jun 13 '20

So you think that better graphics = next gen gaming experience? Or what is the point you are trying to make, because I dont get it. The Witcher 3 goes for a realistic style, BoTW for a cell shaded one. What I was saying is that BoTW's gameplay mechanics felt really next gen: the physics, the interconnected nature of the enviroment, the enemies etc. In terms of gameplay it was coherent and felt like something that hadn't been done before. The Witcher 3 has amazing story, characters, world building etc., but that is up for the writers and not for the programmers to create, so while it looks good, in terms of gameplay it's nothing new, maybe subpar.

0

u/kkodev Jun 13 '20

Hey man, don’t get offended. I just didn’t like BOTW that much. All good.

1

u/faxajogasz Jun 13 '20

I dont feel offended, Im honestly curious about you opinion.

0

u/kkodev Jun 13 '20 edited Jun 13 '20

I just don’t dig BOTW as an open world game. It was impressive for Switch definitely, given it’s less powerful than my iPhone.

However I am looking for more in next gen, proper consoles, and I hope it’s not too much to ask for.

Edit: and as far as physics are concerned, I think AC: Odyssey has done a pretty good job and imho much better than BOTW

4

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Wait for the new unreal engine to become common.

5

u/alex_de_tampa Jun 12 '20

Just give me Checkboard 4K at 60fps on everything.

-3

u/Matthmaroo :flair-sce: Jun 12 '20

I’d hope for more than 60

60fps is only great until you’ve had better

1

u/groadbrc Jun 12 '20

I don’t think I’ve ever played a 60fps game. Looking forward to it.

2

u/Matthmaroo :flair-sce: Jun 12 '20

It’s a game changer

0

u/OldManBerns Jun 13 '20

Wait till you get to 144 (pc)

Seriously thinking of getting one of these though. Hoping its under £500 for the BluRay (It is a BluRay isn't it?). Hoping games aren't going to be astronomical in price as that is another big consideration.

1

u/FalcieGaiah Jun 14 '20

Tbh 144 fps on 144hz on PC is kinda meh for most games other than competitive games, especially shooters. Most demanding games you can't run at that framerate to start off even with a 9900k and a 2080ti, most devs just don't design it to run at 144, and the difference is negligible. I still think 144hz+ panels look smoother playing lower framerate content tho.

There's a big difference in VR tho. The index compared to a quest refresh rate is night and day.

1

u/OldManBerns Jun 14 '20

I have a Index. There ace.

1

u/kkodev Jun 13 '20

My bet is that the disc version is going to be £549, but may come bundled with a game

2

u/tomarlyn Jun 12 '20

Meh, depends on the game.

I recently bought my first gaming pc, which I hesitated to do with the PS5 so close to release. But I pulled the trigger and it runs so much better than any console I've ever played, it kinda has me rethinking things haha.

I'm still going to get the PS5 for the exclusives, but I might not buy on launch anymore.

7

u/504090 Jun 12 '20

We’re basically being forced to use a standing system. I hate standing systems.

Sony literally showed it sitting horizontal in the livestream

I’ll just play spiderman 2 on my PS4.

Lmfaooooo pipe dream

4

u/Six2fall Jun 12 '20

There wont be a spiderman 2 on ps4. ALL Sony exclusives will be ps5.

1

u/RainmakerLuke Jun 12 '20

I love the design and I am excited for a couple of games they announced. Also I have a backlog of PS4 games, since I skipped that console completely. Excited to buy the PS5 later this year!

8

u/TriangularKiwi Jun 12 '20

Ratchet looked sick! Horizon will be good no matter what, that game could release and only let you walk around the world and I would pay 60$... Project Athia excited me the most out of all though, you never know with games that start with "Project".. My most anticipated game is still Project Awakening and we haven't heard anything on that yet

3

u/simplycoco Jun 13 '20

lol that game is never releasing

3

u/Six2fall Jun 12 '20

When demon's soul trailer first started I thought it was going to be project awakening but sadly wasnt. Really interested to see what happened to project awakening & the deep down game. Both looked like amazing concept games I really wanted to play

1

u/TriangularKiwi Jun 12 '20

Last I heard theyre still working on Awakening but I think Deep Down might be scrapped, could be wrong... Project Athia gave me same vibes, that it might be really good, kind of like Senua type. I get I'm on the minority on that one looking at the upvotes and comments Athia got compared to other games

1

u/Six2fall Jun 12 '20

Only problem with Athia is its square & their project reveals either end up taking 10-15 years or just dissapear but yeah it looked cool.

Deep down I hope gets turned into a dragons dogma 2

Awakening however I'd just love an open world action rpg with the combat challenge of a souls game the exploring of a tes game monster killing like monster hunter world & witcher 3 combined type game. A lot to ask but I'd love to just get a big world to freely explore going on an epic quest & having to taking on massive beasts/dragons

1

u/TriangularKiwi Jun 12 '20

Lool, true.

I agree on Awakening, looked sick from what has been shown. Also I'm pretty sure at the end it showed some giants or something, wonder how that would work out

5

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Was anyone else surprised no killzone to compete with halo?

1

u/FLEIXY Jun 13 '20

I was kinda hoping for a killzone too

4

u/steppingonclouds Jun 12 '20

Horizon sold like 5x more than any killzone

9

u/Six2fall Jun 12 '20

Nope killzone hasnt been in competition for long time now.

11

u/Fenrir__ Jun 12 '20

Nope, they're fully focused on Horizon

3

u/steppingonclouds Jun 12 '20

Horizon actually sold more than the last Halo

3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

They're big enough they could have 2 teams.

4

u/CustodialApathy Jun 12 '20

Nah. Why even compete with Halo?

People aren't buying the ps4 or 5 to look for a Halo comp.

Guerrilla has also said they're burned out on Killzone.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

They have amazing exclusives but they're all the same type of game. Third person

3

u/dlp211 Jun 13 '20

It turns out that there are two perspectives, first person and third person, but, first person games are almost always a shooter, so is it really a surprise that most games are third person?

1

u/CustodialApathy Jun 12 '20

That's not particularly a problem is it?

I don't see Sony or the studios complaining about sales #'s because of their chosen perspective

1

u/chief_of_exposition Jun 12 '20

It is a problem, and you have proof right above you.

Players like the ones above want something other than a 3rd person platformer every once and a while, especially when half those games are hard-M rated and not suitable for kids younger than 13 to play by themselves.

It's a shame that shooter fans haven't been given anything worth purchasing the console for. Hopefully that changes.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

I'm just saying some variety would be nice

4

u/Masson011 Jun 12 '20

lol killzone has never and will never come close. Dead franchise

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Or any fps. They don't have an exclusive fps for ps5 at all.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

I honestly think fps games are a much bigger market to xbox fans. I could be totally wrong but anecdotally xbox is the console for fps and sports games. PS for action, adventure, rpgs, fighting etc.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Most fps are cross platform and pvp oriented sadly

-5

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Coming from pc to ps4 for exclusives it's annoying how blurry games like ff7 remake are, even tho it's an amazing game. I really hope part 2 is a next gen only game.

1

u/SpunkySamuel Jun 12 '20

Wdym blurry. I've only played the demo, the game didn't interest me much, but the game wasn't blurry

-6

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

If you've played pc games it's like the difference between taa and smaa

1

u/Matthmaroo :flair-sce: Jun 12 '20

I hope ps5 gets some version of DLSS2

It’s very impressive

1

u/SpunkySamuel Jun 12 '20

What's that? Is that the anti-aliasing thing?

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Yeah coming from pc it's very noticeable

2

u/Six2fall Jun 12 '20

Blurry? I havent played it myself but didnt notice it being blurry in any of the videos I've seen

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

You probably aren't used to native 4k games on pc then

0

u/PGDW Jun 13 '20

Lighting and post isnt at a point where additional sharpness of poly lines would add any visual fidelity.

1

u/Matthmaroo :flair-sce: Jun 12 '20

When using DLSS2 it’s really hard to tell , especially when playing the game and not looking at still shots

2

u/Six2fall Jun 12 '20

I dont play much pc but have played quite a few. There is an obvious difference in any game on ps4 & on pc as the ps4 needs to be able to run on the base system then it gets a patch to run 4k on pro. I still wouldnt say it is blurry

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '20

Ok

-6

u/Livingcanvas Jun 12 '20

This might be the year I switch over to PCmasterrace

-2

u/GoudaGoudaGoudaGouda Jun 12 '20

Anybody else think both the new Xbox and PS5 design is terrible. They’re both trying way too hard to look futuristic instead of being practical. There was nothing ever wrong with a perfectly rectangular console. You can stack it, transport it, fit it nicely into TV console table slot.

2

u/chief_of_exposition Jun 12 '20

You absolutely can't fit a giant rectangle easily into a backpack. I remember transporting my X1 home in college and i could barely fit an iPad mini and a hoodie into the bag going through security at the airport. The PS5 will not be able to be transported in anything but a military-size backpack or a straight up suitcase.

2

u/GoudaGoudaGoudaGouda Jun 12 '20

I can easily fit an xbox one/xbox one s and/or a Ps4 into a backpack whereas I see myself having issues trying to fit an xbox series x or PS5 into a backpack. The PS5 is awkwardly shaped and large af. The xbox is cube-like. You’d need an empty backpack for sure and the bag compartments would need to be pretty spacious. Just doesn’t seem practical for transport. I understand the transport aspect isn’t their main focus, unlike the Nintendo Switch. Just something I don’t like personally

1

u/chief_of_exposition Jun 12 '20

The length of the PS5 is the crux of the issue. You likely won't even be able to get a zipper around the console, even with an empty bag. While wide, the XSX should be short enough to put in most backpacks easily provided there aren't any laptops or rigid/long objects also in there to press against it. The PS5 is thinner but at the expense of being the size of a massive diploma that's going to be too tough to cram into bags shaped to not fit anything wider than a standard 13-15" laptop.
