It's all fun and games until that shit comes unhinged and you got a pissed off 45 pound raccoon rampaging through your house like a horse on meth.

u/Tehboognish Jan 29 '23

I am so fucking buying one of these for every window in the trailer.

35

u/fromETOHtoTHC Jan 29 '23

Can these only go in windows?

Ours only got ‘Luminum Foil Holes

I mean it looks like the vertical trim piece closest to the camera isn’t even attached, and has bird feed coming through behind it, into the house. As cool as this interior bird feeder seems, the construction of this one looks a little too janky for me

Don’t forget the army of mice and rats that will clean up the overflow until the find a way inside.

Thank you Redditor for changing my girlfriend’s mind and stop searching for these feeders

I lost interest at the $200 price tag.

Where do you live where raccoons are 45lbs

8

u/billbot Jan 29 '23

I have seen some massive raccoons in California. But probably not 45lbs.

Winter going to be nice as well, it’s not air tight.

43

u/Ok-Radio1489 Jan 29 '23

OK, yes, but: such a cute😍 45lb raccoon rampaging through the house like a horse on meth! Cuddles!

13

u/pinkunicorn555 Jan 29 '23

Or mites from the birds. Good luck getting rid of those.

10

u/WanksterPrankster Jan 29 '23

Or a fucking bear.

15

u/Wuvluv Jan 29 '23

I'm aroused at the concept of a fucking-bear busting through my window feeder though

8

u/NocturneHunterZ Jan 29 '23

Wait, aroused?

5

u/Wuvluv Jan 29 '23

It's fine until the birds regurgitate while you're eating. Don't worry, the raccoons and rats will help clean up the mess too, right in the privacy of your home. Awwww. 🤗

Where do you think meth-raccoons hang out during daytime exactly?

It's trees. They hang out in trees. And crackhouses. And tree-crackhouses.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '23

Our issue is bears. A raccoon would be an improvement.

My dog too! He enjoys watching birds in bushes on our walks.

u/DasGhost94 Jan 29 '23

I really expected to see a shot with it being filled with rats or an other animal

179

u/poiuy43 Jan 29 '23

I've had one of these. Typically theyre in 2nd story windows so the worst I've had is a squirrel

84

u/Panzerschwein45 Jan 29 '23

Squirrels are fucking awesome. I’d personally be thrilled.

Squirrels are vengeful, angry little shits

14

u/Low_Air6104 Jan 29 '23

if you make that clicking noise at them that they make it confuses the hell out of them and they perch on a nearby branch and watch you intently. some even may start posturing back at you and “clicking” back. some just stare in curiosity. it will make you look a little crazy though.

Squirrels are vermin my dude. They only look cute because of the fluffy tails but they’re basically rats.

Also, even if you do like them - especially if you do in fact - please do not feed squirrels. It ends up making things worse for the squirrels in the long run.

u/AfganPearlDiver Jan 29 '23

u/rorys_beard Jan 29 '23

If you look close at the edge closest the camera. There is a slight light leak and seeds are spilling into the house. So it's not sealed properly and there are tiny gaps.

So screw the squirrel problem. Now you are getting bugs, mold, and water damage too!

40

u/DadsRGR8 Jan 29 '23

Thank you. My thoughts exactly. Looks super cool. Poor installation.

97

u/trust-me-i-know-stuf Jan 29 '23

Yeah whoever “installed” that had no idea what they were doing. It’s not sealed on any side.

57

u/Rementoire Jan 29 '23

Nice cold draft down your neck while sitting in the sofa.

12

u/arthurdentstowels Jan 29 '23

It’s a great idea but not the best execution.

21

u/Majahzi Jan 29 '23

This is pretty clearly a modular insert inside of a window. It's temporary.

8

u/Zoltar567 Jan 29 '23

Looks like it might be a window insert

10

u/thebooshyness Jan 29 '23

Looks like it’s on the second floor. Someone got real lazy instead of climbing up there and caulking the hell out of it.

3

u/TeopEvol Jan 29 '23

Now you are getting bugs, mold, and water damage too!

That's all part of the experience!

2

u/silenc3x Jan 30 '23

Yeah I have a suction cup one that goes on the outside of my window when it's down. Much better and can still see the birdies.

5

u/MonkeyBrawler Jan 29 '23

Sure, because cleaning and adding some weather stripping or something would just be too much effort.

u/TheOzarkWizard Jan 29 '23

136

u/Mama_Odi Jan 29 '23

Imagine if you were the bird....

"...so there I was flying along. I started to feel a little hungry. I thought, hmmm, I could sure use a snack. A minute or two later, as if by magic, I saw a pile of bird seed just below. What luck! I flew down below. Landed. I walked in and started eating. Suddenly, I felt like I was being watched. I looked up....I sharted. Two, big round eyes were staring at me. I blinked. They blinked. Suddenly a bright light just as quick as a flash appeared! Lit up the whole field of seed. I backed up and I got out of there. Just as another bright flash of light lit up the field. Takes a deep breath. I dunno what that was man. I'm just lucky I got out of there..."

22

u/Pockets262 Jan 29 '23

You've gotta be really careful when setting something up like this. The bird population could bring in so many different things. Things you might never get rid of. Happiness, a reason to live, things of this nature.

15

u/Felzlek Jan 29 '23

I'm not yet 40, but we added several bird feeders to our yard over the last few years and if I didn't have to work I would literally do nothing but watch birds for the rest of my days. They're so beautiful and funny. I completely understand why so many people get into birds when they retire.

We have a mockingbird that has been hanging around every single day for the last 6 months. It is there before I wake up and is still there after dark. It rarely eats any of the seeds or suet we put out, but it does enjoy Holly berries from a nearby tree. It chases off grackles and other birds that tend to come in larger quantities that scare off the smaller song birds. It's honestly like a little winged bouncer and I love it more than most of my family.

2

u/EtherCJ Jan 30 '23

The northern mockingbirds in my yard like the dried mealworms now. And occasionally suet.

2

u/ccmeme12345 Jan 30 '23

im completely into bird feeding and watching too now. i usually get cardinals, chickadees and a fuck ton of sparrows. my favorite are morning doves.

2

u/Felzlek Jan 30 '23

It's really nice when you are used to all of your common birds, then something completely new shows up out of nowhere. I skipped a meeting at work once because of a type of woodpecker we hadn't seen before. It was a Flicker and we've seen a few since then, but the first time we saw it we were blown away.

How would you keep squirrels out of that? Looks neat though.

1

u/newcitynewme724 Jan 29 '23

If it's far enough off the ground I've never seen a squirrel climb siding

-2

u/Sk3tchyboy Jan 29 '23

Yes cause squirrels can't climb as we all know

13

u/newcitynewme724 Jan 29 '23

.... siding. Climb siding. Like the siding on houses? Designed to protect the house from stuff like that?

4

u/NotesViking Jan 29 '23

Those branches look more than close enough for a squirrel to jump though.

1

u/newcitynewme724 Jan 29 '23

Could be. I really can't tell from the perspective

My cats would be going ape shit over any bird or squirrel or whatever that would go in that box. Somehow, something would be damaged!

7

u/PEBKAC69 Jan 29 '23

I didn't know my cats could do pull ups until we got a bird feeder with suction cups holding it to the window.

4

u/Secret_Perspective5 Jan 29 '23

Mirror tint it will some film. The birds can’t see you

3

u/Mindless-Counter-694 Jan 29 '23

I need this! Is this in New England by chance?

3

u/Financial-Ad-4331 Jan 30 '23 edited Jan 30 '23

Look at that side molding not fully flush to the wall. You can see bird seed falling through also leaving an opening wide enough for other insects

7

u/Altruistic_Love3787 Jan 29 '23

Does anyone have the site to purchase ? I would like one

3

u/Chef818 Jan 29 '23

I googled window bird feeder, shit is expensive.

u/Justme100001 Jan 29 '23

That's how it should be. People keeping birds in cages for their own pleasure is just insane..

13

u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep Jan 29 '23

We got so much shit for haveing our old love birds loose in the house, they had perches, litter boxes and nest boxes in basically every room (other than the bathroom) as people were scared of them. But we rescued them and they were afraid of any cages as they had been kept in one bearly the size of a shoe box, we loved sherlock and Watson and they were so kind and friendly

4

u/jamster8983 Jan 29 '23

Love the idea but that’s how you get mice in your house.

4

u/ExcessiveHairDye42 Jan 29 '23

That crystal ball on top of it is gonna set something on fire one day. They work just the same as a magnifying glass if the light is right

2

u/Caltrops_underfoot Jan 29 '23

Can't help but imagine a smart crow happening to find that thing empty one day, pop open the indoor lid, and snag something random and shiny from inside the house.

2

u/DRGWTM Jan 29 '23

I imagine the mice love the feed that sifts through side gap.

2

u/Commercial-North Jan 29 '23

Add some tint film so they can't see you

2

u/phallicide Jan 29 '23

I believe the second bird is a Tufted Titmouse

Nah this is so elite

2

u/Awesam Jan 29 '23

Heavy breathing

-housecats

2

u/overalldaddy Jan 30 '23

this type of bird feeder invites a lot of disease into the food, and easy spreading as multiple birds could use it at once. not to mention the larger birds of prey flying into your window trynna catch the song birds

2

u/150Dgr Jan 30 '23

Great til the house sparrows eat it all in 20 minutes.

2

u/wetforhouseplants Jan 30 '23

Okay, the price is ridiculous but I fully intent to build one of these for my window now. I have feeders all over my yard and dozens of birds that live in my trees. I need something like this asap. That's awesome

2

u/Patsnation8728 Jan 30 '23

Looks cool unless you live in an area with bears

2

u/Ousschaib03 Jan 30 '23 edited Jan 30 '23

It would be more functional to use a one-way mirror, so that birds feel comfortable and the viewer on the other side can enjoy the moment.

2

u/Ken_from_Barbie Jan 29 '23

Looks cool here but the birdshit, squirrel infiltration and cat attacks would be an issue

1

u/jsveiga Jan 29 '23

I loved the idea.

Birdshit: Have a detachable tray out right below the entrance. Collect bird poo for fertilizing, or just have plants on the the tray.

Squirrel: (not a common problem where I live; I would find them as interesting as birds, but) Build that on a flat wall, high enough (2nd floor?) that squirrels can't climb.

Cat attacks: My cat would probably be amused from the inside. Same solution as for squirrels.

3

u/Felzlek Jan 29 '23

high enough (2nd floor?) that squirrels can't climb.

I've been battling squirrels for long enough to know if they want something they'll find a way. At some point you have to just lean into it and realize you now have a squirrel feeding hobby to go along with your bird feeding.

2

u/stroopkoeken Jan 29 '23

You want mice in your house? This is how you do it.

2

u/WordAffectionate3251 Jan 30 '23

What about all the squirrels?!?

1

u/Electrical-Cattle802 Jan 30 '23

Bad idea. The birds could fall off the edge

1

u/Sudden_General628 Jan 29 '23

Horrible for electricity bill and energy efficiency I presume.

1

u/StaryDoktor Jan 29 '23

Now try to explain your cat you are not stupid building this. How to take a bird?

1

u/5tupidQuestionsOnly Jan 29 '23

This is how you get the shit and the rats even closer to home

1

u/RapMastaC1 Jan 29 '23

Great until you get sick of cleaning bird poop off the window area.

1

u/klem19 Jan 29 '23

the idea is nice, but that wall under the window will be a latrine.

1

u/succubus-slayer Jan 29 '23

But what happens when the squirrels invade

1

u/Coc0tte Jan 30 '23

It's a death trap for birds, they can't escape predators in there.

1

u/stayuplateandtalk Jan 30 '23

The bird shit dripping down the side of the house will never come off.

-1

u/NCPinz Jan 29 '23

And that is how you get diseases transmitted from animals to humans.

0

u/WhenIDecide Jan 29 '23

For when you don’t care about the electric bill
