He built a rig that suspended the armored shell above his little cockpit
Then he lowered it on top and I think maybe welded himself in
It was a one way mission from the planning stages
He was mostly just targeting buildings and property but he had several gun ports and weapons so they feared he'd turn on civilians
Cops literally couldn't stop the thing-- they went as far as dropping a flashbang down the exhaust for some reason (instead of water)
He ended up falling into a basement and shooting himself
Before he fell into the basement they were prepared to call in the national guard and attack helicopters to come and rocket him apart
They disassembled the killdozer and got disposed of the parts so no one would be able to take a momento
I however know of a vehicle that has killdozer parts presently inside of it

I think he wasn't welded in, but the multi ton concrete armor around the cabin was lowered by a crane on top of the cab after he was already inside, there was no door, once the cab was lowered there was no way out. If I'm correct he went on his rampage because of some kind of sketchy real estate deal that cut his own house completely of the road. As a Revenge he locked himself into his barn for a couple months and build the kill dozer. First thing he did was demolish the building that had cut him off the road, after that he continued since he was very suicidal at that point

He went on the rampage because the mayor and the chief of police (I think it was it’s been a while since I’ve read the story) had it out for him. They ruined his business and if I’m not mistaken you are correct about the real estate deal. They basically ruined his life and reputation. After doing everything he could legally and getting shut down every time he had more than he could take. He was just trying to get by and the two most powerful men in the city made it impossible. He just couldn’t get a win so he got payback. His story is heartbreaking. They pushed him over the edge and Killdozer will live in infamy.

The whole entire story of how it started and how it ended is honestly crazy. It took him over 18 Months to make that beast with steel and concrete.
Edit: To add to that, it took the Police / Engineers over 12 hours to cut thru it once the rampage ended. It's insane how armored it was.

The whole story is crazy and sad, but I also think it's strange that it's often left out that the 'Killdozer' was meant to actually be an Armored Weapons Platform (similar to "tank" or "Military Armor") meant to cause as much damage and carnage as possible to the town and people...
He only stopped cause the machine stopped moving (i think police shoot the radiator and it overheated), he didn't shoot anyone because the gunports didn't work right.
Then he shot himself.

Teeeeeechnically he just straddled a wall with the right hand tread over that basement and the left hand tread on the ground. It left him unable to turn and the debris prevented him from reversing out of it. He was also overheating (as you mentioned) at this time too which didn’t help. But root cause was that he didn’t have any traction on the right tread anymore.

It's just like with a tank. A tank ditch is something simple which can stop a tank, just the same as if the tank had happened to fall into a basement, and is therefore one of the reasons why we can't say a tank is unstoppable...even though most tanks are still quite a bit less stoppable than this guy's contraption.

Not quite as true for trenches. Desert Storm had a rather notorious incident where the US Army employed armored bulldozers to simply pave over trenches. This supposedly buried thousands of Iraqi soldiers alive.

An armored bulldozer, which US forces have in the form of equipment like the M9 Armored Combat Earthmover, or 'ACE', is actually part of that same ground support for tanks which that comment mentions, along with equipment like the M60 Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge, or 'AVLB', which is specifically made for making tank ditches passable for tanks.
The M9 ACE is also used for digging defilades for tanks when they are assigned to defense, so that only the most heavily armored part of the tank, which is its turret, is exposed to direct fire.
Such equipment would be found in an engineer company, and a tank battalion typically has an engineer company attached to it for mobility, counter-mobility and survivability support while on a campaign.

My favorite tanker story was something an old crusty CSM told me. They were on the initial push and providing flank coverage. They stopped at an Iraqi checkpoint with two dudes who had no idea what was going on. The two dudes told them they can’t go this way, so they took a five mile detour through the desert.
Two dudes who were probably assigned to some shit gate duty managed to reroute a flight of tanks by telling them no.

I was in the 2003 initial push into Iraq myself, as an engineer attached to a tank battalion, and that actually sounds to me like something that could have happened.
There were a lot of random little road junctions where there would be one or two militia-men just sitting there, with almost no weapons, equipment or food. They had usually come from places like Syria or Jordan, wanting to assist in the defense against the US-led invasion somehow, and so they were pretty much just dropped off in the middle of the desert by Fedayeen or Republican Guard remnants, being vaguely told by them to 'hold the ground' or something.
They were usually just taken prisoner and handed off to S2 or MI people, but it was so dumbfounding that some people probably just didn't know how they were supposed to react to them.

There aren't any hard numbers I've seen on it which is why I use "supposedly" to describe it. According to this article there were 8k soldiers in the 70 mile trench system and only 2k were captured for surrender. The same article also lists some alternative numbers in the few hundreds, so it's probably safe to say the real number is somewhere in-between.

I was at an air show and they brought out an M1 Abrams tank and drove it around a little obstacle course to show off a bit. Unfortunately a few minutes in they barely clipped a gabion wall and it caused a bunch of wire to get pulled into the tread and it completely jammed. Bit of a letdown to see a tank taken out by something so simple and mundane.

The Gun Ports are for sure crazy but in the end his main goal was to destroy the Town / Property of the Owners who burned him and didn't help him. If he would of never got stuck he would have continued but he knew ultimately he would've been stopped eventually.
I read somewhere that he only had 1 round in the Weapon he had but I don't honestly know how true that is.

Nah, he repeatedly fired out a gun port in the rear at a couple of those giant 4,000 gallon propane tanks, he damaged the ripper on the back earlier in the rampage so it blocked the port enough that he couldn’t hit what he was aiming at. It’s only luck that he didn’t kill anybody.

I'm a superintendent for an underground utility company. We use heavy equipment all day, everyday. I've been ~43ft deep in holes we've dug to lay sewer lines. We use dozers to backfill and clean up, track hoes to dig, front end loaders to move material, etc.
I'm often shocked by how capable equipment can be. It never gets old.

Like, he went off the deep end and that’s really bad but he had some verifiable complaints that the documentary either leaves out or just provides someone else’s unchecked account of. I’m not about to write a chapter about it in Reddit comments, but for anyone interested the tapes can be found on YouTube and they are a hard/long listen, but I suggest listening to them before the documentary. There’s his story, their story, and the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

At one point the building needed to be inspected for insurance purposes and Marvin bullshitted his way through explaining what it was, claimed the armor was a special cooling system designed by a professor in Boulder. They just bought it and nobody batted an eye after that.

The govt were fining him for dumping his employees' shit in a ditch and contaminating groundwater instead of having a septic tank installed. This was after years of warnings. Also the dude was a millionaire.
The corporation he got "screwed over" by was a company that wanted to buy his land, he kept raising the price on them and after they agreed to pay 10x what he originally asked for and he backed out again they just stopped bothering.

Each year new people learn of this. It has something for everyone. So each year it gets upvoted again.
If you don’t care about the story, it is as impressive piece of construction all the same.
The corrupted version of the story makes him sound like a folk hero standing up to a corrupt local government. Easy to eat that up. People like underdogs.
The true story is like watching a Tiger King like train wreck. A man who insisted it was his right to release his sewage onto his neighbor’s property, tried to block the road to his neighbor’s, and refused to let the local government pay for and do the labor to fix his sewage decides to enough is enough. He’s going to spend two years planning to destroy part of town and try to kill people for daring to tell him he can’t just run his sewage to the edge of his property at surface level.

He also reneged the deal to sell his land and doubled the price several times after the buyer met his price. Marvin was being petty and the price he was demanding was outrageous. This story is like the Titanic or Chernobyl because (although a horrible incident) its captivating incident in our history, but with a "righteous revenge" twist.
If people look at all the facts instead of automatically buying into the "small guy gets revenge on city who screwed him over" people would realize Marvin was actually a pretty big piece of shit and he obviously went batshit crazy at some point. Marvin was not a hero, but either way you look at it that was a pretty crazy way to go out.
