Its not secret, Gustav Eiffel lived there

466

u/pauciradiatus Mar 23 '23

From Eiffel 65?

231

u/Biaxialsphere00 Mar 23 '23

He was always blue for some reason 😞

41

u/pauciradiatus Mar 23 '23

His house looks more sepia though

7

u/Biaxialsphere00 Mar 23 '23

Blue meaning sad not the actual color of the picture lol

42

u/bk15dcx Mar 23 '23

You've never felt sepia?

32

u/JimBobPaul Mar 23 '23

Sepia is a better descriptive color for feeling down. We should change the term to "I've been feeling sepia lately."

8

u/willie_caine Mar 23 '23

Cuttlefish don't look depressed to me!

7

u/pauciradiatus Mar 23 '23

That's because they're always cuttling

Can't believe that is how tower records started

1

u/dmenis5354 Mar 24 '23

Eiffel 65

uh oh, not that song again..

43

u/largePenisLover Mar 23 '23

It also used to be open for viewing.
It had a wax doll of Eiffel and a famous asshole (edison) set into a scene as if they were having a chat.
Actually I'm fairly sure that part still IS open for viewing

2

u/SkylarAV Mar 24 '23

And apparently designed a pole right in front of his chair

-9

u/ModsGropeKids Mar 24 '23

Then Hitler after he mowed them down like the appeasers they are, then we saved them again.

1

u/FalcorFliesMePlaces Mar 24 '23

Is it still therr?

386

u/Selphis Mar 23 '23

It's such a big secret that they made it an exhibit for tourists!

Nobody will ever find out about it!

91

u/colefly Mar 23 '23

I discovered a tyrannosaurus fossil hidden in the natural History museum

15

u/cpepinc Mar 23 '23

Rumour has it at night it comes alive and wants to play fetch.

u/chmeeeoz Mar 23 '23

🎶I'm blue Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di…

17

u/bumjiggy Mar 23 '23

yea but that's Eiffel 65

I meant the Eiffel Tower

43

u/MrVagabond_ Mar 23 '23

It’s not a secret if you’ve been up there. Anyone can look in the window. This is just a click-bait title.

More like: “a surprising fact if you’ve never been up the Eiffel Tower before, or read anything about its history”.

349

u/Western_Oil_6418 Mar 23 '23

What’s the rent?

822

u/bk15dcx Mar 23 '23 Gold

Sky high

81

u/Western_Oil_6418 Mar 23 '23

Is it because of it’s top-notch location?

50

u/JimBobPaul Mar 23 '23

It's because the market has reached new heights.

18

u/om11011shanti11011om Mar 23 '23

Your real estate pun exchange really elevates things here! Next level humor!

11

u/ma1ord Mar 23 '23

I've heard the apartment is really an eye-full. Must be why the rent towers over all others.

6

u/W1ngedSentinel Mar 23 '23

But what if I can’t get my hands on several DVDs of Sky High?

1

u/GKrollin Mar 23 '23

Fun fact “cousin Greg” from Succession was the glowy kid in sky high

1

u/William_Harding Mar 23 '23

This comment is 11/10.

1

u/Practical_Argument50 Mar 23 '23

You'd have to have an iron backbone to afford this.

49

u/timetofly92016 Mar 23 '23

Whatever it is, probably not worth it. Doesn't even have a view of the Eiffel Tower.

I imagine you could right now.....

8

u/koolaidisthestuff Mar 23 '23

I’d get smashed at the bar.. cause what else are you going to do up there, then hit my head on that beam first day I bet. They don’t mention a bathroom either lol.. they just over boarded it? 😆

4

u/Sirix_8472 Mar 23 '23

If you look at the plans, 2nd picture posted it has W.C. - wash closet.

What we see here is a portion of the living room from a different angle to OPs first picture. If you look at the plans the floor space is 4-5x larger than this in total. So it's more than some bedsits/studios rented to people today.

Imagine being up there in a thunderstorm

20

u/YetiGuy Mar 23 '23

Best to open a barbershop there.

13

u/Expensive-Document41 Mar 23 '23

Imagine being up there during the winter. Place is probably a bloody icebox.

-42

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

52

u/Bergwookie Mar 23 '23

You should be fine. The tower and the apartment walls are made from steel, connected via hot riveting, thus very low resistance and the whole structure is grounded, so you're sitting in a faraday's cage surrounded by a structure that's basically a giant lightning rod, directing the lightning current around you not through you(steel is a way better conductor than a human), but yes, it would for sure be frightening, loud, bright and the tower will be shaking

3

u/Gintaras136 Mar 23 '23

But what if like... A lightning tornado hit the tower??!

3

u/northkcguys Mar 23 '23

And what if that lightening tornado was full of sharks!?!?

2

u/Gintaras136 Mar 23 '23

Now we're talking

-1

u/Gintaras136 Mar 23 '23

And what if Jesus is in that apartment? What then? Is the lighting gonna obey the laws of physics and hit the steel tower OR is it gonna acknowledge Jesus as his LORD and not disturb his weekend!?

59

u/Melis725 Mar 23 '23

Hm, I wanna know what it looks like nowadays.

-57

u/LameBMX Mar 23 '23

28

u/wjfreeman Mar 23 '23

That pic looks really old though

3

u/LameBMX Mar 23 '23

If you learn about the apartment, it's now a museum. Has been for quite some time.

5

u/wjfreeman Mar 23 '23

Then why didn't you share that instead of the old photo?

-12

u/LameBMX Mar 23 '23

Because I'm lazy and copying the link to someone else's comment, that was literally right above this one in my sort order, was easier than googling.

Just checked, that comment I linked was one finger width from the comment I replied with the link on.

Never underestimate the effort I will put forth to defend my laziness!

0

u/Lack_Altruistic Mar 24 '23

Respect, have an upvote… but I’m too lazy as well so just imagine it

2

u/MonteBurns Mar 23 '23

Do you think that’s how women dress these days?

11

u/LameBMX Mar 23 '23

I'd wager that's how she is still dressed since it's a wax figure in a museum.

42

u/luvdemtiddies Mar 23 '23

How do I move in?

75

u/jsveiga Mar 23 '23

You can have it. Now that the secret is out, I'm moving to my other apartment at the top of the Golden Gate, since the one hanging over the Arecibo parabola is requiring some renovation.

17

u/luvdemtiddies Mar 23 '23

Merci

28

u/jsveiga Mar 23 '23

The view of Paris is almost perfect, but you can't see the Eiffel tower.

Good luck getting any food delivered there though.

8

u/knapplc Mar 23 '23

This is the old line about Tour Montparnasse. It has the best view in all of Paris, because it's the only place in Paris you can't see the Tour Montparnasse.

6

u/Badaxe13 Mar 23 '23

Yes, this would have been perfect for Victor Hugo

$50 a night

*cleaning fee $7,000 and you must clean entire apartment 7 times before leaving and construct an identical Eiffel Tower next to the original Eiffel Tower with another apartment exclusively to give the owner when you leave

85

u/SirNarwhal Mar 23 '23

But does it have plumbing for if you go take a oui oui? 🤔

30

u/Bergwookie Mar 23 '23

A hole in the ground should do the job

6

u/mrplinko Mar 23 '23

But what if we aren't a very good aim?

14

u/Sam-Gunn Mar 23 '23

The tourists complain. But don't let that stop you.

7

u/Substantial-Pay-524 Mar 23 '23

oh so thats why Paris smells vaguely of piss

10

u/Sam-Gunn Mar 23 '23

There's a reason the French invented perfume. /s

3

u/iscashstillking Mar 23 '23

Aiming might be a problem due to vertical spacing constraints.

22

u/3SquirrelsinaCoat Mar 23 '23 Timeless Beauty

The piss isn't the primary challenge. It's the poop. Le merde, as ze French say. It is rumored that M. Eiffel himself used to hurl his feces down at the masses who gathered to see his triumphant tower, and they would look up to the sky, mon dieu, it is so incroyable! And then splat, Eiffel dodo in your visage. It went on for many years, with young French people pranking their friends. "Look up to M. Eiffel and he will bless you with his vision." Splat.

Ultimately, it was his predilection for throwing poop that inspired the current Parisian attitude toward non-French people, which is, "I shit on you."

11

u/funky_doodle Mar 23 '23

That doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about France to dispute it.

3

u/3SquirrelsinaCoat Mar 23 '23

It's right, just as trash smoke becomes stars. Physics 101.

37

u/J4MES101 Mar 23 '23

Does anyone use it?

I’m guessing it’d be worth a crazy amount. But a pain to use daily.

35

u/Sszar Mar 23 '23

Prob to bang high end escorts

17

u/dim13 Mar 23 '23

⅕ mile club

8

u/Sszar Mar 23 '23

1/3 km club

9

u/AWildLampAppears Mar 23 '23

it's a museum now

1

u/Squeakygear Mar 23 '23

Is it still all the original decor, or have they updated it with the times?

4

u/gypsycookie1015 Mar 23 '23

I wonder who it was originally intended for?

19

u/Bareen Mar 23 '23

The heading for the second picture says it’s the floor plan for Monsieur Eiffel. So the same guy that designed and built the tower I’d assume. Guessing it was his personal apartment.

13

u/hukaat Mar 23 '23

You’re correct, it was an appartment for Gustave Eiffel

3

u/gypsycookie1015 Mar 23 '23

Interesting! Thanks!

13

u/daaldea Mar 23 '23

A bathroom?? I'm genuinely curious how they got plumbing up there

8

u/eugeniusbastard Mar 24 '23

It just kinda trickles down one leg

11

u/TheKnightsRider Mar 23 '23

Lego made a gift with purchase of this apartment to go with the new big set

7

It could use a ceiling fan.

16

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '23

I don't know what kind of secret is that because now it's shared among 11 million people

5

u/-KitchenVisit- Mar 23 '23

Where does the poop go?

4

u/atandytor Mar 23 '23

Wasn’t this in the Tomorrowland movie?

6

u/BabyBluePixie Mar 23 '23

Not so secret anymore

6

u/MrVagabond_ Mar 23 '23

It’s not a secret if you’ve been up there. Anyone can look in the window. This is just a click-bait title.

3

u/BabyBluePixie Mar 23 '23

Oh I was just joking

3

u/Plad016 Mar 23 '23

Rent probably lower than london

3

u/Fantastic_Fox4948 Mar 23 '23

Well, it only stands to reason that if it had a bedroom and a bar that it would also have a bathroom. I hope that if the drain went all the way to ground that it never clogged.

3

u/PokeHobnobGod21 Mar 23 '23

So hidey hole in a zombie apocalypse

3

u/Take_away_my_drama Mar 23 '23

I've been up the Eiffel Tower at least twice and don't remember this information at all!

7

u/DulceEtBanana Mar 23 '23

I remember reading a story, true(?), that it was occupied by a rich person who HATED the Eiffel so much he said "I'll live there so I don't have to look at it."

6

u/McDoggystyle762 Mar 23 '23

Not much of a secret anymore 🫣

2

u/Comfortable_Brush399 Mar 23 '23

The toilet plumbing ends abruptly, so i guess your turds sail off on the prevailing wind to splatter some poor frenchman

2

u/Taz10042069 Mar 23 '23

Tomorrowland showed me that! XD

2

u/DevynMae Mar 23 '23

Orbiting Human Circus of the Air?

2

How did his bathroom and kitchen have water pressure?

2

u/digbicknam Mar 23 '23

Wasn't that in Rush Hour?

2

u/flaskfull_of_coffee Mar 23 '23

I call dibs when the zombpocolypse happens

2

u/IceBankYouuu Mar 23 '23

No shit, we saw this in the Rush Hour movie

2

u/bucklebee1 Mar 23 '23

This needs to be Daryl's home in his walking dead spinoff.

2

u/MalingeringTransAm Mar 23 '23

According to the movie Tomorrowland it should also turn into a rocket.

2

u/iammabdaddy Mar 23 '23

I wonder if it's inhabitated today? The ranking odor of curbside waste would be heavenly.

2

u/AustinTreeLover Mar 23 '23

Every time I see something about the Eiffel Tower I’m like, “Hey, I threw up there!” Vertigo is a bitch.

3

u/Higreen420 Mar 23 '23

The flush action on that toilet must be awesome.

1

u/wanroww Mar 23 '23

But why is there an "arbaletrier" up there?

1

u/vosbergm Mar 23 '23

Has anyone ever lived in the apartment

1

u/Neptune_UK Mar 23 '23

What happened to it? I assume that it's no longer there.

8

u/MrVagabond_ Mar 23 '23

It’s there. Just for tourists to look at through the window, like a museum attraction. This is just a click-bait title.

1

u/KellyFriedman Mar 23 '23

I can't find any recent pictures so I'm assuming it's no longer there.

1

u/TheProfessionalEjit Mar 23 '23

So you could do an Eiffel tower at the top of the Eiffel tower.

Nice.

0

u/SBTELS Mar 23 '23

Yep that’s where I did your mom for the first time

1

u/mumblestein Mar 23 '23

1

I hear there’s a portal to a futuristic city up there

1

u/I-amthegump Mar 24 '23

Is that where Macron is gonna hide out?
