Which chest will you open? The one with the guns and hot chick or the one with lava and a bear?

Depends on how hot the bear is.

33

Probably quite hot considering it's stuck in a chest with lava.

8/10 if he's pretty straight acting and likes to be called "Daddy".

6/10 if he's preventing forest fires.

2/10 if he's trying to steal your "pic-a-nic basket".

0/10 if he's not wearing pants and has his head in a beehive.

Just to state the obvious: those ads are specifically designed to make idiots think, "That's dumb. I can do so much better than that. I need to go kick that game's ass."

51

u/olgreasysteve Dec 01 '22

i think a lot of the time the “game” they show you in the ad isn’t even the actual game

like you’ll see someone fail at the removing pegs and lava flow thing and then you download the game and it’s a match 3

12

u/Canadian_in_Canada Dec 01 '22

There are a few real pull-the-pin games, mostly made by the same company. Lots of ads, but easy to click through most, once you get familiar with them. The game-play does increase in difficulty, but they are satisfying challenges, not frustrating ones. Never terribly difficult. And I looked them up on the Aurora store (I had initially diwnloaded from the Play store, before I knew about Aurora), and they have no trackers at all. I find that the ads are a small price to pay for fun little game that is actually what it advertizes.

Game: How to Loot
Company: Azura Global

3

u/PageFault Dec 01 '22

First I've heard of Aurora, (I already have F-Droid) I'll have to check it out.

It fucking works to, i KNOW thats how those ads are made, and it pisses me off they're made that way, and makes me curious what it would look like if you actually played the game WELL.

103

u/AdjNounNumbers Dec 01 '22

what it would look like if you actually played the game WELL

Ad Level 1 "Huh, that was easy" Ad Ad Level 2 "Also really easy" Ad Level 3 "That was too easy" Ad .... Ad Level 17 "I wonder when it gets difficult" Ad Ad Ad nauseum Uninstall app

81

u/jamoche_2 Dec 01 '22

Don’t forget the 30 second ads after solving it in 15 seconds.

18

u/lyvanna Dec 01 '22

Gotta turn off the internet. Some of them are somewhat enjoyable if you just want to turn your brain off and pretend to be a toddler for a while but you gotta turn off the damn internet.

3

u/astroember Dec 01 '22

But then there’re the ones that dont let you play without internet. Because money.

3

u/lyvanna Dec 01 '22

We uninstall those

10

u/Taz-erton Dec 01 '22

But if you buy 1000 Turbo Gems for 9.99(best value) you can spend 600 of those to skip adds for the week!

Otherwise there's always the much more affordable 599 pack of turbo gems for 6.99 which can get you a cool sticker.

13

u/KatPohtaytoh Dec 01 '22

This is why I usually turn off wifi and mobile data before going into these games.

16

u/Cobalt113 Dec 01 '22

Some of them got smart with that and will disable the game until one is turned back on

10

u/KatPohtaytoh Dec 01 '22

Then the game is not worth it.

6

u/LoveFishSticks Dec 01 '22

I think some even pre-load ads when you install them so they can advertise to you while you're offline

5

u/LitrillyChrisTraeger Dec 01 '22

4

u/MyHamburgerLovesMe Dec 01 '22

That's what she said?

30

u/immaownyou Dec 01 '22

What's worse is the gameplay in those apps is never what the ad shows. Not even close

50

u/MalevolentRhinoceros Dec 01 '22

I really love the recent trend where every single game is apparently about a woman and child living in a run-down, abandoned building in the middle of winter.

Ma'am, this is a solitaire app.

28

u/lyvanna Dec 01 '22

r/fuckhomescapes

Lily's garden is also fun, those ads tend to be really sexual and inappropriate. And it's also just bejewelled with extra steps.

10

u/greathousedagoth Dec 01 '22

My favorite is "Evony" or something like that. I swear I've had it advertised to me for 15 years now and it always relies solely on a big booby lady to sell it. Every now and then there is a hint at what the gameplay might be, but it's always different. The only constant is sex.

5

u/Frolb Dec 01 '22

4

u/greathousedagoth Dec 01 '22

LMFAO. That's great. I actually remember some of those! They were really cutting edge on selling shovelware with flesh. Now that's basically all mobile game ads.

One time, I found a completely ad-free bootleg copy of one of those games (the "pull the rings to release the water and lava, etc), and I played it for like an hour. The gameplay got so boring and stale that it basically cured me of ever wanting to play those games again when I see the ads.

2

u/LoveFishSticks Dec 01 '22

Then you download the game and it's literally something that doesn't even resemble the ad, that shows you more ads for fake games every time you perform any sort of action at all

70

u/Ciri2020 Dec 01 '22 edited Dec 01 '22

This sub is going to hell, oddlysatisfying used to have so many gems every day that would make you go "whoa".

Now we're watching toddlers... do puzzles designed for... toddlers??

And it's gone straight to the frontpage somehow, I can't tell if this is vote manipulation or if people just upvote whatever they see without even checking if it fits the sub

14

u/psychoCMYK Dec 01 '22 edited Dec 01 '22

Front-page ruins subs. Like you said, people come in and Like The Thing so they upvote it without even a passing thought as to what sub it's in and whether it belongs there. The other day, one of the top posts on blackmagicfuckery was literally a piece of plastic held up to a light

"Huh. Look at that. Thicker plastic lets through less light."

Meanwhile the comments are all just soccer fans screaming about the player depicted

Season's greetings everyone!

As the holidays roll around, you'll notice a big influx of posts of really neat products like this, as well as people citing links of where you can buy them in the top comments.

Just a reminder that these accounts are likely working together in order to sneakily advertise their marked-up storefront to you over Reddit. Often, you can find the same product for cheaper just by searching for the product yourself.

38

u/ExplanationHead3753 Dec 01 '22

Also make sure to use secure payment site. Great PSA!

I shared it purely because- 1. I found it oddly satisfying 2. It fits the sub

I don't care about the puzzle/toy whateve and I don't have any affiliation either. I'm a normal human who regularly uses reddit (go check my profile).

I'm not a bot either and I do condemn spammers spamming with links for products.

Sorry for the long rant, I've seen some people shitting on me for no genuine reason before by giving such reasons, I just want them to read this before they hop on hate train. Have a good day!

That's good to know.

Unfortunately, as you can see -- for example, this post by TelephoneOk9 here if the comment has not been taken down yet -- there are many accounts which have found your post to promote their own overpriced storefront of the very product you've posted.

You can do your part to help by reporting them, and also blocking them as well so they cannot continue to comment under your post. The latter is only something you can do, since you are the owner of the post -- no one else can control who replies in the comments other than you.

3

u/Scrandon Dec 01 '22

Your initial post is fine but you really don’t gotta do all this to save people from being stupid with their own money. It takes a room temp IQ and just a little bit of interest to shop around.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone that if someone in the comment links to an unfamiliar storefront for this product, it is likely a planted advertisement for a dropshipping business. This is especially common around the holiday shopping season, when you'll see more and more posts like this.

You can almost always find the product for cheaper, safer, and more reputable source if you search for the product yourself on your search engine of choice.

Stay safe out there!

Sometimes kids have a more particular perspective on structure and I reckon they probably thought they had to keep the colours in the respective column the bottom one started in.

To an adult it doesn't matter what column they're in as long as they match, but to a kid they might prefer to stick to the original structure they are prescribed.

This kid reminds me so much of my son at this age. He’d do puzzles, play with gears, it was all done with this kind of focus and efficiency. His spatial awareness was really impressive even at a year and a half. Turns out my kid has ASD.

I did a psychology study for a PhD student last week at my uni... one of the tasks I had to do was those ring towers but put in certain order and I had to make it march pictures...

I thought I was doing really badly until before the last one she said I was doing rwally well... completely threw me for the last one...

I was just proud of myself for managing to do a kids task haha
