This sub is going to hell, oddlysatisfying used to have so many gems every day that would make you go "whoa".
Now we're watching toddlers... do puzzles designed for... toddlers??
And it's gone straight to the frontpage somehow, I can't tell if this is vote manipulation or if people just upvote whatever they see without even checking if it fits the sub
→ More replies14
u/psychoCMYK Dec 01 '22 edited Dec 01 '22
Front-page ruins subs. Like you said, people come in and Like The Thing so they upvote it without even a passing thought as to what sub it's in and whether it belongs there. The other day, one of the top posts on blackmagicfuckery was literally a piece of plastic held up to a light
"Huh. Look at that. Thicker plastic lets through less light."
Meanwhile the comments are all just soccer fans screaming about the player depicted

Season's greetings everyone!
As the holidays roll around, you'll notice a big influx of posts of really neat products like this, as well as people citing links of where you can buy them in the top comments.
Just a reminder that these accounts are likely working together in order to sneakily advertise their marked-up storefront to you over Reddit. Often, you can find the same product for cheaper just by searching for the product yourself.
38
u/ExplanationHead3753 Dec 01 '22
Also make sure to use secure payment site. Great PSA!

o7 appreciate your hard work! ^ is correct, unfortunately. check out /r/TheseFuckingAccounts to see some of the tricks these dropship sellers are using and how rampant they run on reddit. (not saying that OP here is doing these things, but people should still be aware of what's happening)

Greetings to you buddy!
I shared it purely because- 1. I found it oddly satisfying 2. It fits the sub
I don't care about the puzzle/toy whateve and I don't have any affiliation either. I'm a normal human who regularly uses reddit (go check my profile).
I'm not a bot either and I do condemn spammers spamming with links for products.
Sorry for the long rant, I've seen some people shitting on me for no genuine reason before by giving such reasons, I just want them to read this before they hop on hate train. Have a good day!

u/JohnnyTork Dec 01 '22

Whatever. He’s not a bot. I would rather have a human being post reposts than a bot post reposts. All the things he posts I feel are worth sharing even if they’re not original.

If I coded a bot, the response OP said above is the exact one I would program it to say.

That's good to know.
Unfortunately, as you can see -- for example, this post by TelephoneOk9 here if the comment has not been taken down yet -- there are many accounts which have found your post to promote their own overpriced storefront of the very product you've posted.
You can do your part to help by reporting them, and also blocking them as well so they cannot continue to comment under your post. The latter is only something you can do, since you are the owner of the post -- no one else can control who replies in the comments other than you.

u/Scrandon Dec 01 '22
Your initial post is fine but you really don’t gotta do all this to save people from being stupid with their own money. It takes a room temp IQ and just a little bit of interest to shop around.

Or maybe the internet has just rotted your mind. Either or really.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone that if someone in the comment links to an unfamiliar storefront for this product, it is likely a planted advertisement for a dropshipping business. This is especially common around the holiday shopping season, when you'll see more and more posts like this.
You can almost always find the product for cheaper, safer, and more reputable source if you search for the product yourself on your search engine of choice.
Stay safe out there!

it also found as "Montessori color & shape sorting game". not sure if it is older or new, dropshipping or not

2
u/antiduh Dec 01 '22 edited Dec 01 '22
Another Psa, be aware that anybody can call their school or their toys or their parenting strategies as 'Montessori'. Make sure you look for stuff from reputable Montessori folks.
On Amazon, there's like five brands all selling the same "Montessori" toy, with names like AugToy, HOONEW, Skrtuan, Kizh. Classic sign of dropship bullshit, so stay away.

84
u/Knifiac Dec 01 '22
I mean, you might have been right. Lost efficiency by focussing too much on sorting the blue and yellow when all of the reds were right there ready to sort. Not like that makes it less impressive for a child so young, but give yourself some credit you know?
27
u/Simplyaperson4321 Dec 01 '22
Absolutely, the kid didn't solve it optimally, which doesn't make it any less impressive at all. Just means that we all think differently!

u/TatManTat Dec 01 '22
Sometimes kids have a more particular perspective on structure and I reckon they probably thought they had to keep the colours in the respective column the bottom one started in.
To an adult it doesn't matter what column they're in as long as they match, but to a kid they might prefer to stick to the original structure they are prescribed.
3
u/MirageTF2 Dec 01 '22
I mean, if you're referring to the example where he slides the reds over at -0:12, that's absolutely a mistake, no reason to not just dunk the red in rather than putting it on top of the greens
don't get urself down :D
33
u/TheHYPO Dec 01 '22
For whatever it's worth, this is sped up about 33% (play at about .75x for real time). I'm not sure if someone thought we wouldn't be impressed by a toddler doing this at actual speed or just that we don't have the attention span to watch a 25s video - only 20s max...

His parents seem to be very involved and give him brain stimulating toys. I wish all parents would do things like this (as long as they don't go overboard). I think if children are exposed to solving puzzles at a young age, a lot of problems will be easier once they're in school.
